Vic Damone just doesn't stop. This relatively recent album shows he's still got what it takes to croon anytime he wants to; he even has a new book out soon! The music on this album is very beautiful; and you can tell Vic really delves into each and every ballad to deliver it with genuine feeling; that's truly special. The quality of the sound is excellent; and the artwork shows good taste.
"Embraceable You" starts the album with Vic singing flawlessly; his excellent sense of timing makes his performance even better and he sings this with all his heart and soul. "Embraceable You" was always one of my very favorite love songs; it's every bit as classic and timeless as Vic himself! "But Not For Me" shines like silver and gold when Vic tackles it; the music that plays perfectly complements Vic's vocals. "But Not For Me" has an arrangement that uses the piano and the strings to great advantage; and this is the second highlight of this album. "What Now My Love" charms me with its natural beauty; this lush ballad gets the royal treatment from Vic Damone and he never lets go of a single superfluous note! I love it. "Our Love Is Here To Stay" has a slightly slower tempo than I'm used to; but it all holds its own very well and Vic Damone never sounded better. It's truly amazing just how well Vic sounds despite the passage of time! Talk about talent; Vic Damone has loads of it. In addition, "Moon River" sounds very good in Vic's capable hands; he sings this from the heart and the percussion works well in the musical arrangement. Great! "Night And Day" is a wonderful Cole Porter tune that Vic aces effortlessly; his talent still carries him through and he makes it all look and sound so easy. "Night And Day" is clearly a major highlight of this album; and I think you'll like it very much. "The Shadow Of Your Smile" has a hauntingly beautiful sound to it; Vic Damone delivers this with panache and the rhythm is just perfect. What a love song--and Vic does a splendid job with it. "Stardust" is absolutely gorgeous; it's a classic tune that could never be forgotten--just like Vic's talent! Listen also for "Yesterday;" this is the George Harrison love song that Frank Sinatra once said was the most beautiful love song he had ever heard. Vic sings "Yesterday" with great sensitivity and the strings work wonders for this ballad. "The Girl From Ipanema" is quite a strong number that came early on in the history of bossa nova; Vic sings this like the champ he is and always will be! The album ends wonderfully with Vic Damone performing an old standard, "Begin The Beguine." "Begin The Beguine" sounds great and Vic Damone takes his time on this classic which he delivers with an arrangement that sounds new and fresh. This is great music for dancing! Vic Damone's talent always amazed me; his albums bring happiness and high quality control music to people all over the world. This is a fine album for his fans; and people who like classic pop vocals would do well to get this album.

by the exquisite clarinet and strings, recorded close up, which introduce "Embraceable You." Vic's voice when he enters, however, seems to be coming from a portable phonograph in the middle distance. I'm aware that these selections were recorded late in his life--at a stage where Will Friedwald suggests his voice had deepened from violin to cello--but I believe his engineers could have served him better.
