Motown Does It Again!!!,

Another antholgy album!! The music is fresh as usual(but come on) how many more albums or collections do we need Baby Love on!! I love the Supremes but dislike what Motown is doing to them. Give us the original albums on CD. Release one or two a year bring the Supremes back to the top!!

DIANA ROSS AT HER SPARKLING BEST!,
By ianphillips@uk.dreamcast.com (BOLTON, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 40 Golden Motown Greats (Audio CD)
I am 21 years old and love hip, modern, pumping R and B music and have been in awe of Diana Ross for many years now even though these recordings were mostly made before i was even born but these recordings have a timeless appeal and is an important contribution to the history of soul/R and B. Her modern recordings are still unique but its these fine classics that she will be best remebered for. There are now so many compilations featuring Diana Ross and the Supremes best work that i think its time now for Motown to re release some of her origanal albums and let the younger generation appreciate this special ladys undoubted talents. Albums that i have such as DIANA ROSS 1970, SURRENDER 1971, DIANA ROSS 1976, BABY ITS ME 1977 and ROSS are just perfect examples that should be re released on CD as these represent her versatality as an artist, plus manyof the albums she did with The Supremes. This is however an excellent compilation to have if you don't already have these classics. It offers a vast range of The Supremes hits with Diana Ross which includes YOU CAN'T HURRY LOVE, STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE, THE HAPPENING, REFLECTIONS, LOVE CHILD and SOME DAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER all of which possess a great, infectious beat with Diana Ross' vocals sparkling and emotionally charged. These are just a handful of the classics featured on this compilation. The album also represents a great selection of The Supremes post Ross when lead vocal duties were taken over by the talented Jean Terrell where they scored more classics with UP THE LADDER TO THE ROOF, STONED LOVE, FLOY JOY, AUTOMATICALLY SUNSHINE and NATHAN JONES all of which can be found on here. It also inevitably gives an airing to Diana Ross' most magical years with Motown between 1970 to 1981 which includes the triumphant AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH, the beautifully smooth and soulful TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING, sultry disco classics UPSIDE DOWN, I'M COMING OUT, and LOVE HANGOVER as well as magnificent ballards such as the powerful Michael Masser track ITS MY TURN, ENDLESS LOVE with Lionel Richie, YOU ARE EVERYTHING with Marvin Gaye and THEME FROM MAHOGANY (DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO). Classic after classic, performances truly stunning and the music charged with fire and soul. EXCELLENT!!! So if you dont already have these classics - buy it!!!!! An important part of the twentieth centurys music. Remarkable! Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!

Even though it is another anthology, I bought it for my collection. Since there was no photo of the jacket, I thought I would inform all of you other collectors out there that the cover photo is the same that was on an import album from many years ago. The photo is of the three pair of bright red lipstick lips with the microphones in front of them. Happy collecting!

something missing?,

Geeze, this thing has 'em all, you might think...problem is, without "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" why bother! Wouldn't it be *brilliant* of the folks @ Motown (there is still a Motown, isn't there?) to remaster and reissue all the LPs from the "golden age", 1964-70? Seems like good business...

All the big UK Motown hits,
By
This review is from: 40 Golden Motown Greats (Audio CD)
The first CD covers the music of the Supremes, with and without Diana, while the second CD covers Diana's solo career up to the time that she left Motown in 1981.
Of the Supremes tracks, eighteen were recorded with Diana. I'm pleased to see My world is empty without you (one of their finest songs) included despite the fact that it completely missed the UK charts. Come see about me, Back in my arms again and I hear a symphony are also here despite only being minor UK hits - however, all three were American number one hits. More predictably, Where did our love go, Baby love (the only UK number one hit for the Supremes), Stop in the name of love, You can't hurry love, You keep me hanging on, The happening, Reflections and I'm gonna make you love me (with the Temptations), all of which made the UK top ten, are here along with UK top twenty hits - Love is here and now you're gone, In and out of love, Love child, I'm living in shame, I second that emotion (with the Temptations) and Someday we'll be together. Six Supremes tracks date from the period after Diana left. Five of these made the UK top ten and the other just missed, that one being River deep mountain high (with the Four Tops), a cover of the Ike and Tina Turner classic. Much as I enjoy these tracks, I prefer the Supremes when Diana was their lead singer. Diana had a huge number of UK hits without the Supremes but many of them were minor hits. Only one of those (Reach out and touch) is included here, the others here all making the UK top twenty or better. Of these, Ain't no mountain high enough, Remember me, I'm still waiting (Diana's only UK solo number one for Motown - she later had another number one with Chain reaction for a different label), Surrender, Touch me in the morning, All of my life, You are everything (with Marvin Gaye), Do you know where you're going to, Love hangover, Upside down, My old piano and Endless love (with Lionel Richie) all made the UK top ten. Of course, it wasn't possible to include everything - I would have liked Last time I saw him and Getting ready for love (two of Diana's minor UK hits) while others might want The boss (another minor UK hit but an American number one hit) - but this is a very strong compilation that will give enormous pleasure to a lot of people. From a British perspective, this is the definitive Motown collection of Diana Ross and the Supremes, including every UK top twenty hit and a few other important tracks. Americans may notice that some big hits (from their perspective) are missing (including The boss) but not many. A different British double-CD compilation, Love and life, covers Diana's entire career but misses out a lot of Motown classics to make room for the later stuff. I prefer this set but you must make up your own mind.

Come on Motown - there are more to the Supremes than this!,

Motown: this album is good, but we have these songs repeatedly. Why not release each Supreme album - all the different Supremes - in their original format? You started but didn't finish. We want "Supremes sing Holland-Dozier-Holland", "Supremes a Go-Go" - "Cream of the Crop" (original, not this compilation that is titled the same), etc. My vinyl records are wearing out!

I have a lot of the supremes records like "The Supremes sing dozier, holland, dozier", "The Supremes sing Rogers and hart", "Let the sunshine in", "New Ways but love stays" and a lot of others. My record player is so old that when i play my records it goes really fast or slow cause its so old,and thats why i think motown should release all supremes albums on cd including the live ones too like the copa or live at the london place and farwell and the ones with the primettes.
