    5.0 out of 5 stars A Goldmine of Information!, September 5, 2002
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Handbook (Paperback)
The Golden Retriever Handbook fills a niche for owners and breeders who are tired of the same elementary information offered in breed books but who are not interested in reading pedigrees or a kennel-by-kennel history of the breed. Instead it provides in-depth state-of-the-art information about Golden retriever medicine and physiology, hereditary health problems, nutrition, genetics and behavior--information that can make you an expert at caring for your dog. But it's not all work; there's information on training for field work, and an introduction to hunting tests, field trials, obedience trials, agility trials, and conformation shows. And of course there's just some fun stuff so you can have a good time with your dog. The text is intersperced with stunning photos of Goldens in action (no page after page of boring show photos!) and even enough information about record-setting Goldens to get you motivated to best them. It is the complete Handbook for making the most of your life with a Golden.

This review is from: The Golden Retriever Handbook (Paperback)
This book is an excellent reference for the first time owner or even a seasoned one. There's detailed information on the history of the breed, descriptions and illustrations of American and British standards, what to look for when chosing a puppy or dog, how to feed & proper nutrition, proper grooming, diseases and conditions that are common for dogs in general to ones more specific to Goldens. This book even tells you how to perform a quick physical on your dog so that you can learn what's normal and what's not, enabling you to identify potential problems as soon as they arise.

One thing that surprised me was a section on blood tests and an explanation of some of the more common tests done on dogs. There's also a section on first aid, artificial respiration, and CPR. Another valuable section, is one on training. It goes beyond the basics and includes an introduction to field, agility, and conformation.
There is such a wealth of in-depth information to make this book an essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book about Golden Retriever., March 3, 2001
    A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Handbook (Paperback)
This one of the best book I've ever read about GR. It give me a good information on purchasing, training, feeding, health problem, and much more. But there is 1 problem. The book doesn't tell the information on housebreaking. I strongly recommended this book for those who wants to buy Golden Retriever and for those who wants information on Golden Retriever.
