Absolutely the most thorough and understandable book on the fabulous Golden Retriever pup. There are many excellent books, magazines, and other articles out there, but this one tops them all.

Ten years ago, when we purchased our first Golden, I did much in-depth research, deciding on which breed to buy. Now, after having purchased a new puppy, my "The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook" arrived after-the-fact (I ordered it after I purchased the pup!).

I am astounded by the author's knowledge of the breed. It's as if she knows our pup, his personality, traits, instincts and his habits personally. I cannot tell you how very comfortable and confident it makes me feel to have this book. I would rate it ten-stars!

I have been the happy owner of a beautiful golden retriever for the past 16 months. Without the exceptional insights I gained from this Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook, my last 16 months would not have been so enjoyable. Every detail of how my golden retriever and I would predictably go through the process of adopting each other has been clearly explained by Ann Johnson in this handbook.

There is no greater joy than awakening every morning regardless of the weather to spend an hour with my darling golden retriever. I am not sure that these days would have been as easy without this book.

My recommendation to all of you who wish to find love waiting for you every day--check out the wisdom and insight of Ann Johnson and find a golden retriever to join your family--This handbook truly walks you though discovering the magic that only a darling golden retriever can add to your life.

I look forward to reading your review of this handbook here in the near future.

Golden retriever puppies are special: any seeking to understand and raise a superior breed dog will appreciate THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER PUPPY HANDBOOK: THE CARE AND TRAINING OF A GOLDEN RETRIEVER PUPPY FROM SEVEN WEEKS THROUGH TWELVE MONTHS. From acquisition to the puppy's first vet visit and the basics of feeding, the handbook packs in everything needed to handle the special requirements of the breed. An in-depth, highly recommended pick.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook, August 21, 2005
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook (Paperback)
This book has been my best resource puppy guide to refer to regarding Golden Retriever puppies. The author has 30 plus years raising and breeding Goldens. It is a MUST read if you own or plan to own a Golden Retriever. Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook, February 3, 2008
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook (Paperback)
OK--Welcome back to my reviews--apparently I did not put the voting mechanism on my first review of this book, and luckily that gives me the opportunity to write another one. . letting you know how things turned out with my darling golden puppy. She just had her 3rd birthday and she is fabulous.

Well the truth is--BERIT is perfect for me. But how did she get to perfect? Simply because in the early days--any time I had a little issue with her--I found the answer, the solution or the reason in this handbook. Little things, big things--its all there. I am convinced that no one knows GOLDENS like Ann Johnson. This book leaves nothing out. . .there are things that Ann covers in this book that BERIT has yet to pull on me!!

I consulted this book many many days (and continue to do so)--guidance from this book kept my puppy gloriously "golden".

When you choose a Golden--you are not a "Dummy", so you should not choose a book that indicates that Goldens are for Dummy's. You are a champion. And this book is the book for champions.

For the love of goldens--trust Ann.

Susan and BERIT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!, December 15, 2007
By
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook (Paperback)
About a year ago I began reading books about Golden Retrievers as this was the breed of dog I thought would make a great family pet. After reading The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook by Ann Johnson I made an appointment with Gold-Rush Kennels to get a puppy. I was so impressed by the author's expertise on this breed & her incredible insight into Golden Retriever behavior. I purchased a beautiful 10 week old puppy from Gold Rush & couldn't be happier! My pup is now 8 months old. & I find myself consulting Ms. Johnson's book frequently for info. regarding his development & behavior. What's so amazing is with each passing month, every chapter I read is so accurate about the phase of develop my pup is experiencing! Ann Johnson's insight into Golden behavior is so "on target."

This book is a "Must Read" for anyone who is considering owning a Golden Retriever. You will find yourself reaching for this book often as your pup grows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really knows her Goldens, April 12, 2007
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook (Paperback)
As the proud mother of a perfect Gold-Rush Golden I can say that Ms. Johnson really knows what she is talking about. Do your homework first, know what you are getting into as far as time and cost goes. Don't buy any dog from a "puppy mill." Better yet adopt from a Golden Retriever Rescue Group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, September 1, 2008
This review is from: The Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook (Paperback)
Our breeder requested we order this book when we purchased our new Golden Retriever puppy. He told us not to read anything, other than this book! He was very serious about that. He told us not to read anything else on the internet or any other books. This was all we needed.

It contains a wealth of reliable information on Golden puppies thru the first year. We took his advice and trusted his judgment. They have been raising Goldens for 30 years.
