This is what the best punk rock is all about.,

It's loud, it's rude, and very, very funny. Keith Morris and the boys attack each track with a manic ferocity--whamwhamwhamwham--as if they might die if they don't get all this crap off their chests ASAP. Funniest punk band this side of The Dead Milkmen. Their "Golden Shower of Hits" (a pardoy of those old Starz on 45 discs from the late 70s) is one of those utterly wonderful moments in punk rock history, when a band in its howling-good prime excoriates a whole generation of lesser "recording artists" just for the heck of it. More fun than the you should be allowed to have with a discman . . .

The Jerks 3rd and Last Truly Great Record.....,
By Tim MacKenzie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews

As far as sound goes, this is a lot closer to "Wild In The Streets" than "Group Sex", and while Wild may be their best(depends on who you ask), this is really good. In Your Eyes, Parade Of The Horribles, When The ... Hits The Fan, and Under The Gun are the obvious greats on here, but the not so obvious ones like High Price On Our Heads, Red Blanket Room, Coup d'etat and Product Of My Enviroment are also great, and the rest is good too. After this one the only original members are Greg and Keith, and to me they never reached this kind of greatness again. The last truly great C.J. record.

Golden Shower of Hits, Circle Jerks style.,

This review is from: Golden Shower of Hits (Audio CD)
The Circle Jerks return with another collection of punk driven pop songs. Tracks like Coup d' tat and When the Sh#@ Hits the fans are punk classics. The band shows their cheesy side when they do a medley of "hits" (the real highlight of the album). Sounds like they were having fun when they recorded the last track. Not as angry and bleak as their last disc. A true collection of golden shower "hits".Highly recommended.

"Group Sex" was a masterpiece but "Wild In The Streets" was boring. The Circle Jerks came as close as they ever did to returning to form with "Golden Shower Of Hits". There are some [bad] songs on here, but their are also some good ones like "In Your Eyes", "Coup D'Etat" and "When The Sh*t Hits The Fan". "Jerks on 45" is probably the biggest highlight on this album (it seems that after "Group Sex", the Circle Jerks' best songs seemed to be cover songs).

I started listening to punk in 1982, and the Circle Jerks were one of the premier bands at the time. I had taped Group Sex and Wild In the Streets from friends, and Golden Shower was their first new album they put out out on my watch. My recollection is that everyone loved it more or less, I don't remember any particular poo-pooing in my circle. (no pun intended) Nothing about it being the worst thing they ever did, or that it was crap compared to the first album etc. However a couple of years later they released the shark jumping album Wonderful, and I'd say that's when things started to go sour. All these years later, when you talk to people my age who were there at the time, they act as if the Circle Jerks only put out one decent album, Group Sex, and that nobody paid any attention to anything of their subsequent records because they were all horrible crap. It's revisionist b.s. and it's irksome. Group Sex might be their best (as debut albums often are) but the two albums that followed are definitely worthy listening. Golden Shower contains some classics, e.g. When the @#$% Hits the Fan (perhaps more relevant today than it was 30 years ago), Coup d'Etat, and of course the title track- a cover medley of snippets from '60s and '70s love songs.

Two songs save this album....,

This is when the Circle Jerks started going downhill. Coup d'etat is the best song on the record and it's a five star song. High price on our heads is a four star song. The rest are one and two. Like so many bands they seem to change their sound and instead of appealing more to the listener, they go off on their own and re-invent themselves. I love the Circle Jerks and I like this album, but if you own just one Jerks album it should be Group Sex. That's their best album ever....

This is the way it was, children. This is where all your grunge, neo-grunge, post-grunge Seattle scene garbage came from. This is silly, rough, and sounds like it was recorded in a garage. This is the source of everything you losers listen too. Well, actually that's Bob Mould, but the Circle Jerks are iconic for everyone else.

fun fun fun thats all i can say about this album .one of the best punk albums to come out of early 80s cali seane .hosted but ex-black flag singer keith morris and along with other founding member greg hetson this album is just full of punk rock anthems to tear the roof off unlike the first 2 albums(group sex/wild in the streets) whick were build for speed this one just more rocking then speedy .nothing wrong with a little rock and roll thrown in the mix for a minute.this album was like made to rock with you air guitar to..there is a lot of punk anthems in here(remember when punk had a anthem or 2)??.some of the album highlights are ,red blanket room.under the gun, junk mail..product of my enviroment, when the sh#T HITS THE FAN,and of course the power punk medly jerks on 45 which feature 5 old am radio songs(carpenters/captin and tenille) pumped up and ready to skank and beer drink to.so with an album the clocks in under 28mins this was like the standard time for a punk rock album there will give you time to go and listen to it again......its that good....

good punk release,

A good Jerk's release , not as good as Group Sex and Wild in the Streets , but alot better than Wonderful and VI . The songs are still loud and slamming , but you can feel the band's energy burning out somewhat , but producing some memorable moments " Red Blanket Room" , "Junk Mail" and the hillarious final track "Jerks on 45". I wouldnt' recommend this to be your first Circle Jerks album , get Group Sex and Wild in the Streets first , then get this one .
