5.0 out of 5 stars Indescribably Beautiful
From the first lush, bell-like sounds of "Blackbird", it's obvious that this CD is all about the lullaby. And I've never heard a prettier collection of music in my life.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice melody, not what I hoped for
while the story behind the disk is loveable , the product is not what I hoped for. This is mostly INSTRUMENTAL music, with a minimum of actual singing. I was misguided about what I will receive. It is still an Ok disk for the nursery.

From the first lush, bell-like sounds of "Blackbird", it's obvious that this CD is all about the lullaby. And I've never heard a prettier collection of music in my life.

Maybe it's the sentimentality of being the father of a 15-month old, but more than a few tracks brought me near to tears, and that's on the first listen. Each expressive note evokes the sounds of a small stuffed animal, mobile, etc playing those tinky notes that sounds like the sweetest music ever played. Highlights are "Blackbird", Brahm's Lullaby, "When You Wish Upon A Star", "Golden Slumber", and....."Isn't She Lovely". The soft, amazing, understated vocal for this song creates an interpretation that floored me. Be warned - you will never forget it. It's a reworking of the song that rises well above Stevie Wonder's and really brings out the words in a whole new, beautiful way.

I'm sure this is not for everyone. It's very mellow. There's no great improvisations for the jazz purists. But it's a great sound and I think every new parent should receive a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what this mommy was looking for, February 8, 2005

This review is from: Golden Slumbers: A Father's Lullaby (Audio CD)
I bought this to play as background music during my son's naps. I can't tell whether he likes it better than any of the other music I put on for him, but it's my absolute favorite.

The music is relaxing but not boring. Each piece offers a gorgeous arrangement, mostly of songs you'll find familiar. Sometimes as I hear the strains of the CD coming through the baby monitor, I just feel overwhelmed. The music is so peaceful, it just makes me feel sentimental about my precious little boy and how I wish everything in his world could always be as gentle as this music is.

This is probably the most beautiful lullaby collection I've ever heard. My 2 1/2 year old son absolutely adores it . . . especially the versions of Hush, Baby and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. The music is far from old fashioned, yet it is amazingly relaxing and calming --- even for a very excitable little boy. While it is great for a small child, I find it the perfect music for adults to listen to when taking a nice relaxing bubble bath or trying to unwind for the evening.

I'm a huge Dave Koz fan and always adore his selection of guest artists (Peter White, David Benoit) and this CD is no exception. They all made fabulous contributions to this album.

My husband and I bought this CD for our baby the first day the CD came out. Up to this date, this is the only CD our son will listen to when he goes to bed. Dave Koz has become our son's favorite music artist! The soothing sounds of jazz along with the great voices of the artists are a sure hit in our house. You don't have to be a jazz fan to enjoy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT ALBUM!, September 6, 2005

The ABSOLUTE BEST lullaby album I've heard yet! I forgot to review this item when I purchased it almost a year and a half ago. We played it EVERY night for the first 7-8 months after our son was born. We moved a couple of times afterward and this album got lost in the shuffle. My son's attention was captured INSTANTLY when it began to play in another room last night! DADDY FOUND HIS CD!! My son, now 16 months, swayed from side to side with his eyebrows raised and a huge smile on his face - truly brought tears to my eyes! This is the sweetest CD with a sort of R&B or jazzy type feel! WE LOVE IT! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! God Bless!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for babies, October 15, 2002

I bought the 5-song preview CD and used that when I went to sleep. Now that I have the full length CD I don't have to put it on repeat.

The songs are soft and soothing for anyone to go to bed with and relax their minds. These are not "cheesy" sounding songs. Plus with various artists, it features a variety of styles, from emphasizing keyboards, to sax, to vocals...anything to fit your tastes.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works, October 11, 2002

We heard Dave Koz on the radio previewing the album and liked it.
Once it arrived our daughter Patti (5 months) was crying, we turned on the CD, she stopped, looked over by the speakers and stopped crying. She didn't cry for the rest of the CD and by the end we had a sleeping baby.

Musically, the album has much variety in styles, all relaxing, of modern lullabies. It will be played even when just the parents need to unwind.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for new parents, April 15, 2004

This CD is amazing. My husband is a fan of David Koz and he bought this for our now 16 month old son. When I first rocked and held him to the sounds of Isn't she Lovely...I just cried at this miracle I held. The songs are very soothing, even to me and as soon as I put this CD on, my son knows it's time for sleep. Of all the many lullaby CDs I have, this is my favorite! I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool CD!!!!, April 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Golden Slumbers: A Father's Lullaby (Audio CD)
I love the musicians on this cd... they all compliment each other. This cd is a great bed-time cd for the young ones, but also it's nice to just listen to as background music! My daughter has grown to love what she calls "pretty music" at bed-time... and this is a wonderful addition to our collection. If you have a new-born... this is wonderful and peaceful music for anytime. If you know someone having a baby, or that has a baby... this would be the perfect gift for them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming- also try LULLABY and ANGELS ALL AROUND, March 15, 2003
This review is from: Golden Slumbers: A Father's Lullaby (Audio CD)
There are several really standout tracks on GOLDEN SLUMBERS. As a father I'm moved. The smooth jazz style will appear to some a tad dated, while I prefer to think of it as reminiscient of a simpler time.
"You Can Close Your Eyes" is so tender and respectful your heart is touched.
I would also direct you to my two favorite lullaby CD's, LULLABY:a collection, and ANGELS ALL AROUND by Genie.
