Maze was an appropriately named band-- difficult to pigeonhole...you couldn't quite find your way to the center of thier influences, as it were. Jazz, smooth pop, funk-rock and traditional R&B blended seamlessly to make for a very appealing sound. With singer/songwriter/producer Frankie Beverly at the helm, Maze released a series of fine albums throughout the 80's. This "2-fer" is comprised of Maze's impressive debut plus the equally accomplished follow-up "Golden Time Of Day". If you enjoy R&B that's smooth and well-produced but still "in the pocket" (closer to an Earth, Wind & Fire/Isley Brothers mid-tempo groove than the sleepy "MOR&B" of a Peabo Bryson or Luther Vandross) you will find this collection to be a good introduction to Maze.

Okay! This is the best from quite possibly the best R/B group in the business. Previously lost in the CD format "Maze featuring Frankie Beverly" features the best that the group has to offer. Unabashed singing, serene lyrics, and pure "funk". A must have for the "Maze fan".

don't a day hardly go that I don't Groove to Maze&Frankie beverly.there smooth,but Funky in the Pocket Jams always pack much punch. they are to me the Last Important R&B Band. they are Our Black Grateful dead&will sell out any place in a chocolate city in a heartbeat. they never were self-Promoters or Sold Out to showcase there talents. "Golden time of Day" makes you feel good. there harmonys, arangements&vibe makes you feel good. just like back in the day how Earth,wind&Fire,the Isley brothers did&Like Today how R.Kelly's spirited Stepping Songs have that kind of vibe well Frankie Beverly&Maze leave that lasting feel good flavor. Look at california, happy feelin's,etc... are timeless classics. Frankie Beverly will always be the Musical truth to me.a Badd soul brother who ain't never got his due to me.

I bought this CD for my Dad! He's always asking me to order some kind of CD, and I always choose Amazon! Thank you and I'm sure he is enjoying the CD!

Highly recommend this compilation!!!!!!! Maze is truly an experience! The lyrics are drenched with depth and Frankie Beverly's voice is smooth's smooth. If you ever get the opportunity to see them in person, run don't walk to buy tickets. It's a transformative experience, especially when they sing "Golden Time of Day." I'm always moved by the lyrics, the memories that flood back and the soul stirring feelings their songs evoke whenever I listen to MAZE.
