More About the Author

I have been photographing railroads for over 30 years, shooting everything from restored steam locomotives to streetcars to modern freight power. In this pursuit, I have accumulated about 140,000 images from all over the U.S. and Canada.
I am editor of Railfan & Railroad magazine, based in Newton, New Jersey, a monthly magazine that features some of the best railroad photography available.
I am married to Genie, and our "kids" are an assortment of dogs, cats and other fun creatures.

This booklet is full of information, photos and advertisements on trains and even includes a short list of places suggested to visit. I don't think the photos and advertising are duplicated in any other books I have on passenger trains and streamliners.

But the downside is there's only a total of 64 pages including the title, contents and index and the format is 5¾ X 8½ inches. Due to the limited size, the typeface is quite small, which might be a problem considering the age group most likely to be interested in this topic. The photos are really too small to really see the charm and splendor of the passenger cars being illustrated and some of the advertising and illustrations are unreadable without a magnifier. I was especially frustrated that the only illustration I've ever seen on the inner workings of UP's experimental steam-electric locomotive was not only tiny but quite fuzzy.
