Best Bond Beat!, June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Goldeneye: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The United Artsits Film (Audio CD)
This score deserves the most attention of any other Bond film score. Eric Serra is a genius; the music could not be more appropriate for every scene. Although I was disappointed that the famous, original Bond theme never appears (the Gun Barrel music), I still find this CD to be one of the best scores ever assembled.

An excellent Bond soundtrack!, August 6, 1999
This review is from: Goldeneye: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The United Artsits Film (Audio CD)
I've always been a fan of spy music, and they don't get much better than this! Except for the love songs, the music, for me at least, conjures up images and scenes from the movie as I'm listening. The classic Bond theme is woven into more modern-style music very well, in my opinion. If you're a fan of action movie or spy soundtracks, this one is awesome!

It's a score and that's what it should be, June 24, 2000
This review is from: Goldeneye: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The United Artsits Film (Audio CD)
Many facile complaints have been leveled against Eric Serra's well-conceived score for Goldeneye. Most have focused on the infrequent appearance of the much beloved Bond theme and the so-called 'techno' or 'electronic' nature of the instrumentation. First off, if what you want is multiple reiterations of the Bond theme, by all means buy the album for The World is Not Enough--David Arnold has created multiple exciting and extremely enjoyable tracks of 70s pastiche which make the album highly listenable. If, on the other hand, what you want to hear is the soundtrack to a movie whose composer who remembered that his job was to SCORE A MOVIE and not just to add funky beat tracks to John Barry's wah-wah guitar, give your attention to Goldeneye. Serra's score does its primary task better than either of Arnold's recent efforts. (Don't get me wrong--I own those scores, too, but The World Is Not Enough is a poor film score whatever fun it might be to listen to. Watch the skiing scene in the film and tell me it doesn't appear flat and lifeless.) Serra, on the other hand, built a clever score which highlighted the action and underscored the drama onscreen beautifully. And that is what a score OUGHT to do after all.
