4.0 out of 5 stars A killer new sound for 1996
Few bands took a stab at this style of music in 1996, and none of them had more success with this new sound than Goldfinger did. 2.0 out of 5 stars album blows if you are looking for good ska
no, I don't like this album. do yourself a favor and pick up hang-ups first. If this is your first goldfinger album, it will likely be your last. Goldfinger is a good band, just, well I like a little more ska.

4.0 out of 5 stars A killer new sound for 1996, February 15, 2005
This review is from: Goldfinger (Audio CD)
Few bands took a stab at this style of music in 1996, and none of them had more success with this new sound than Goldfinger did. It was a blend of fusion, punk and ska that took the world by storm, and the L.A. based quartet helped move ska in positive directions. There are several standout tracks, the biggest being the hit/video "Here in Your Bedroom", which was featured on their original demo EP in 1995. The EP received favorable reviews and heavy airplay of college radio. The success of the EP earned them a shot to tour alongside the Sex Pistols, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish, and a spot on the Van's Warped Tour.

Some of the best tracks include "Mind's Eye," "Stay," "Here in Your Bedroom," "Answers," my personal favorite "Mabel" and the humorous "My Girlfriend's Shower Sucks". They mix it up a bunch, throwing in reggae and metal as well.

Overall, Goldfinger comes off original and full of energy. They paved the way for many pop-punk/ska bands to come. The album went gold in 1998.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can do it!, February 16, 2005

Goldfinger came out with this album and kicked the [...] out of me. It was so spectacular that I couldn't believe what I was hearing. There isn't a song on this album that I pass up. From start to finish I can listen to this album over and over and over and I've had it for nearly 10 years. This CD soars above a lot of other albums out at that time and even now. Although Goldfinger has progressively gone down hill in sound, lyrics, and production quality, this CD was a gem. "Hang Ups" was another awe inspiring CD with no song passable. "Superman" to "Chris Cayton", "Hang Ups" was one of a kind. "Dan's Coconut Ass" wasn't too shabby with a few skippers. "Stomping Ground" was a great CD, though it didn't sound like Goldfinger. A few songs had the Goldfinger touch, but they had a new, developing sound as well. "Open Your Eyes" was where the collapse became evident. The first 6 songs are great. Some of the others on the album have their high points, but there are more cons than pros on this album. Now, their new CD is out...That's all I have to say about that. It's out. Listen for yourself.

Goldfinger is the band that got my musical tastes to where they are today. I originally fell in love with Hang-Ups and never really heard songs from this album till a few months ago, though I have heard pretty much all songs from others. I decided to download this album (later bought it) and it is my all time favorite album beating even Hang-ups. I depresses me (literally) that I can't find another band/album to match it. I hate how their music is changing. It's great they are singing about what they believe in but the music itself has gone downhill. I mean I still love them and always will but they should really try to release at least one song per album that brings back their original sound. And yes I do play this album at least once a week and I officially call it "my Happy Album" since hearing it esp while driving ALWAYS cheers me up tremendiously.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a thought, August 22, 2003

To "burn14me", i have been to many live shows of goldfingers and FYI to you, they have always had a horn section. Your live concerts may have been different. i can't believe you would even compare Goldfinger to NoDoubt, i agree though...NoDoubt is not even close to punk. Im sorry you missed the experience of the horn section, but goldfinger is very much a ska band my friend. As to the cd, it's quite good, lacking in horns but definitely a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars are you kidding? GO BUY THIS CD NOW!, June 2, 2003
This review is from: Goldfinger (Audio CD)
FYI Goldfinger is not a ska band. They add horns in studio for fill and backround but have never had a 'horn' section live. So if they are lacking on horns and such that is why. Many people get that confused because they dont go to many live shows but just like No Doubt, Goldfinger is not a ska band but unlike No Doubt, Goldfinger is a rockin PUNK BAND!. Now go and buy this CD and give it to all your friends and tell them that its the best cd you ever heard in your life and not a bad song on it.

The first time I heard this album, I did not know who it was. But I listened to the whole thing, and every song was great. I have found that these songs have helped me through the toughest of times. Whenever you have a bad breakup or you are strung out over someone, listen to this album and you will feel alot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars happy times, January 25, 2003

This review is from: Goldfinger (Audio CD)
since about a year ago, goldfinger have changed my view of punk/ska as a whole.i first listened to stomping ground off of a friend, and this was the second goldfinger album which i listened to.i haven't got this album as i can't find it anywhere, but whenever i have the chance, i borrow it off him.if you want hardcore s**t, this ain't for you, but if you want to be happy and laugh and relax, this is bloody brilliant!in the six years of their existance and the 5 albums, this is probably the equal best with stomping ground.it is certainly the happiest.buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars good ol punk rawk, May 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Goldfinger (Audio CD)
Don't listen to these people complain about there not being any ska in this album...first of all...horns don't neccesarily make a ska album. Listen to some old ska...the specials for example don't have horns in alot of their songs...but back to my review...there really isn't a bad song on this cd...if you are a punk/ska/rawk/whatever kind of kid then this is a great addition to any cd collection. I've seen em live at least 4 times and they put on a hell of a show. pick this disc up! Pickitup!
