Simply Utopia,
By
This review is from: Goldfrapp - Wonderful Electric (DVD)
This is simply the best music concert DVD I have ever bought. First off, there are two DVDs so you can hear the growth of Goldfrapp from Utopia to Black Cherry. Secondly, Ms Goldfrapp has an incredible voice and stage persona. When I was listening to the Goldfrapp CDs I was not entirely sure if it has her singing all of the high notes due to the electronic nature of their work. Well, its her alright. When she belts out the operatic opening of the song Utopia I was amazed. Goldfrapp tends to sing in the middle register, but you get to see her following traditional operatic vocals for the beautiful high notes. Also, I would not have guessed that she is so incredible on stage (especially on the Black Cherry tour).
This purchase was filled with pleasent surprises and combine that with the fact of getting 2 DVDs and this is a must buy.

Wonderful Electric is a fantastic DVD, of which many of my friends and I have enjoyed. This DVD includes two disks, of two sold out concerts and two documentaries. On Disk one Alison sings songs from both Black Cherry and Felt Mountain. It consists of a sold out concert at Somerset House, and a Documentary on Goldfrapp: 'Twisted Summer'.
Disk two is all about Felt Mountain, including a never-released-on-album track: Little Death, (I personally liked this one very much) It also has a very...strange documentary on Goldfrapp's, Felt Mountain album: 'A Trip To Felt Mountain' (I especially enjoyed this one...it was rather amusing...but that's just me). This DVD is the one to adore! I hope that you will buy it and enjoy it as much as I and so many others have! Tracks: Disk One, Live at Somerset house: 1. Deep Honey 2. Human 3. Lovely Head 4. Crystalline Green 5. Train 6. Utopia 7. TipToe 8. Deer Stop 9. Twist 10. Strict Machine 11. Pilots 12. Slippage 13. Yessir 14. Black Cherry Documentary: Twisted Summer Disk two, Live at Shepherds Bush Empire: 1. Paper Bag 2. Human 3. Deer Stop 4. Lovely Head 5. Pilots 6. Little Death 7. Felt Mountain 8. Utopia 9. U.K Girls (Physical) 10. Sartorious 11. Horse Tears Documentary: A Trip to Felt Mountain Quite exquisite

I saw Goldfrapp play live twice in 2004. She was an amazing singer. This DVD documents the live show over the past five years. I saw the Black Cherry tour so it was great to contrast and compare that experience to the earlier tours. This DVD shows some of the videos, and they could have included some of the videos, but maybe that's for another day. I look forward to the next Goldfrapp album.

to be honest i don't really get that excited over live sets on DVD. It may be like you watch them once and think its pretty cool and then never watch it again. not this one. it is on heavy rotation still after two months. both concerts offer different sides of goldfrapp. the first is more of the electronic side shown on the black cherry album mixed with a select few from the more downtempo felt mountain. the second disc is all the thick, atmospheric beauty of felt mountain with a few tracks unreleased. the cover of olivia newton johns physical is stunning.

I was late buying this fabulous DVD-set, but as they say, "better late than never." I am sooo very glad that I bought this! It's filled with all of their best work, and it's just, well?, extremely entertaining!
I just saw their L.A. show, March 11, 2006, @ the Wiltern Theatre, and that alone has made me a fan for life now! I just hope they release just as good of a DVD for "Supernature", as they did for "Wonderful Electric". Goldfrapp is a hidden diamond, get this DVD asap! You will thank yourself later! :] ENJOY! ~r.xs

If you're a Goldfrapp fan (and even if you've never even heard of them) this DVD is essential. It contains two different DVDs from two different eras: the "Felt Mountain" and the "Black Cherry" eras. Although both concerts are great, I really do like the contrast of the songs in the "Black Cherry" DVD. The documentaries, "A Trip to Felt Mountain" and "Twisted Summer" really catch the 'feel' of the albums, too. I'm so glad that artists like Alison Goldfrapp exist. She's an artist that can combine sex appeal with musical genius. This DVD is a definite must!

For Goldfrapp neophytes, this DVD is a great addition to your collection. Do not pass this one up. Watching the contrast of the two tours, you continue to appreciate what this band is capable of doing with their sound.
The only downside was the short length of the "Twisted Summer" doc.

I discovered Alison Goldfrapp this year(2006). What a treat! Since I am a "Supernature" generation kid to her music, and that being fantastic music, I had to research her past music and performances. Again, what a treat! She is following all of the great musicians who adapt to changing times, by changing her styles of music. This, to me, keeps her music fresh and inviting.
I missed seeing Goldfrapp in NYC earlier in the year, but made a point to see her October 18th at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. She mixed some of the songs from this DVD with newer music of the Supernature CD/DVD. I believe she is going to be a new superstar in music. If you haven't heard her music before, and are used to a more rocky style of music, then buy the Supernature CD/DVD set. This way you can see her in her music video(and a live concert song). Then if you are hooked, buy this DVD set to see her older live performances. Of particular interest in this set are the songs Utopia, Strict Machine, Black Cherry, Train and Human(kind of a surreal, nightclub song with neat orchestration and Cowbell!). If you become really hooked, see her live, and then buy all of her stuff! I listen to this music at work, in the car, etc. Good Stuff. P.S. Check out her website. She has a good one where you can see and hear her.

I am a fan of Goldfrapp, no doubt. I bought this DVD expecting to see a visual version of the music and not much more, instead I was treated to a fantastic pair of performances on what is now one of my all time favorite music DVDs.The two performances are quite different. The first performance was recorded after Felt Mountain came out and is a fairly straight forward performance of the material and very enjoyable. The second performance was recorded after Black Cherry, and has material from the first two albums, this is where Alison's live performances really started to come out and truly amaze. I did not think it would really be possible to have a show based on Felt Mountain and Black Cherry - they are so different, but the result was fantastic. When I looked at the play list I thought Black Cherry was a poor choice for the last song, but they turned it into a real show-stopper...this version will really tear your heart out. The live version also contains a great version of Slippage which includes her famous (infamous?) Theramin work. The short of it is: If you like Goldfrapp you should own this. Period.

I found Goldfrapp while listening to the Strobe music channel on Dish network. I bought 2 cd's and the DVD set based on what the Amazon samples sounded like. It wasn't exactly what I expected but I really liked it--- quite a lot. It is quirky captivating. The 2nd disk songlist doesn't seem to line up with what the cover says. That is OK-- I'll figure it out later. UPDATE: The song lists weren't making sense to me because the disks are labeled wrong !! -- They are backwards, at least on my copies.
