Editorial Reviews

Debut album from the eighteen piece Cardiff rap troupe. The GLC claim influences through their modifications of songs from artists such as So Solid Crew, The Streets and...Paul Gascoigne. Tracks tackle topics such as their Welsh heritage, irrelevance of American rappers, gun control and the allure of drugs (the last of which is a recurring theme throughout). Technically proficient but with a definite tongue in cheek. Atlantic. 2004. * Please note this UK pressing features the same track listing as the US edition, Straight Outta Newport but does features different artwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Album!, February 1, 2005

I haven't stopped playing this album since I bought it. I absolutely love it. It's extremely funny and I hear something new every time I listen to it. They have the most beautiful welsh accents, which I could just listen to all day. My favourite track is The Maggot, closely followed by Self Suicide, The Manifesto, Half Man Half Machine, Soap Bar and Your Mother's Got A Penis! To answer the late, great Frank Zappa "Does Humor Belong In Music"? YES, it most definitely does.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jumbo, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Goldie Lookin Chain Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
In regards to Mr digiboomblasta, or whatever sadassed name he came up with: you are a moron. GLC are meant to be funny. No one except hardcore knobends like you take them seriously, I should know, Ive met the blokes.
Oh, and dont call us welshies taffs. Only we can call ourselves that.
Anyways, this "album" is hilarious. Probably only because Im from the 'port and such, but still. it makes me chuckle. PLease buy it and support the greatness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't blame the chain!, December 22, 2004
This review is from: Goldie Lookin Chain Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I thought this album was ra good especially for the chain. I'm english so I probably know them better than you americans. They are a welsh rap group using comedy as a music-maker. This album is a classic, celebrating the greatest hits no-one had heard. `Seperate reviews of tracks:

1. Manifesto-Great start to the hits. Just a short description of who they are but using humour and so forth. 9/10
2. Self Suicide-Definitely one of the best songs on the album. If they release it will make loads. Clever rhymes and shows their best side. 10/10
3. Guns Don't Kill People Rappers Do-Brilliant! This song is how I first heard of them and one of the reasons I bought this. It's so comediac and preaches about how stars have harmed other simply because they are hardcore rappers. Golden magic! 10/10
4. Half Man Half Machine-Good track, but a slight more amount of swearing in than other songs. Chorus is good and again get ready to laugh. 8.5/10
5. Roller Disco-A pretty alright song. A downfall is there isn't really a chorus so it is hard to follow. Still good though and really expresses the Welsh accent. 8/10
6. Soap Bar-Song about smoking soap. Ahem. You decide for yourself. 7/10
7. Billy Webbs Lament-Just a little intrlude or skit. Kinda boring. Not much else. 6.5/10
8. Your mother's got a pe*is-Just great. So glad they released it. Grand and cool. And sooo funny. May offend you tightwads, but get over it! Comedy genius, best song on album by far! 10000/10
9. Maggot-Alright song about one of them. Nothing special. 7.5/10
10. You knows I love you-Great song about love (ha ha) yeah right. Absolutley safe and cool. about 9.5/10
11.Leeroy fasions lament-okay another interlude type-thing. Gets a bit boring. dont like it too much. 5/10
12. 21 Ounces-parody of 21 seconds by So Solid Crew. Chorus of mockery is funny but verses drag on. Not too recommended. 7/10
13. Time to Make a Change- Worst song on the album by far. Really bad finish. Can't believe it. Too boring, bland and not anyones type (sorry to be so mean but IT SUCKS!) like, 2.5/10
Thats a quarter braw!

In conclusion, whole album: 8.5/10. Best song: Your mother's got a pe*is. Worst song: Time to make a change. BUY IT. BUY IT NOW!
