Same story, but retold so much better!,
By KSL "emma-and-me" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Phyllis Fogelman Books) (Hardcover)
Everyone knows the story of little Goldilocks and the Three bears and this is basically the same story but with a lot more added to it! It shows where the bear family have gone while waiting for the hot morning breakfast to cool. Our curious and make yourself at home Goldilocks is skipping rope and looking for a friend to skip with. Up to the door she hops, knocks and no one answers. She's not giving up without 1 more knock and the door opens... and in she hops and so begins our story. What I like about this book is that the basic story we all grew up with an knew is still there but the author added more elements to this story. For example... when it comes to the beds... Papa's isn't hard... it's rock hard, and mama bear's bed is silky soft and Goldilocks slides off the bed and of course Wee bear bed is the best of all. And without ruining any more of the book I'll end my review here. This is just an enjoyable book with great illustrations!

I gave this book to my grandaughter at her [...]birthday party and it stopped the show. She and her cousins, [..] had been opening toys and clothes one after the other, hardly glancing at any of them. When she opened this book and they started looking at the beautiful pages, they had to go through the entire book and look at each one! Here's a photo of the opening: [...]

Another Mark Buehner classic,

This review is from: Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Phyllis Fogelman Books) (Hardcover)
The beauty of this rendition of Goldilocks & the 3 Bears is Mark Buehner's illustrations. Always gorgeous, with an I Spy type of hidden animals in each painting, Mark Buehner allows my children to explore the pictures and the text at the same time. While the book is excellent, Mark and Caralyn Buehner have set a high mark. Not as innovative as Superdog and Snowman at Night, but fascinating all the same. I can't wait for the next Mark Buehner book to explore. The text by Caralyn Buehner is serviceable, but lacks the complexities of Fanny's Dream or the rhyming sequences of the Snowmen books.

I had looked forward to getting this version as I saw that it had hidden surprises in the pages...however, even upon several reads, these appear to be extremely elusive and actually confusing. Thought this would give the book more appeal to my children, but found it disappointing. The story and pictures otherwise are pleasant, but the first version I had of G & the 3 B's would have sufficed. This hasn't added anything special for us.

Love the bears, but look out for the tyrannosaurus,

My kids (2 and 4) love this book, but they are getting really tired of my husband and I spending story time turning it upside down and squinting to try and find the rabbit, cat, and tyrannosaurus. Sometimes they are obvious enough for the kids to spot, but on other pages they are really well camouflaged. There are a few pages where, to save our sanity, we are trying to convince ourselves that the original illustration was a square, and whoever did the layout cropped it to a circle, not knowing that the rabbit was hidden near the corner.... We have a paperback edition of the book, so maybe they are easier to see in a nice shiny hard cover version!Update.... Weeks later, we have found them all. They really are there. The kids still like the book too ;)

Historical literature.,
This review is from: Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a warm hearted story for everyone to enjoy; kids, moms and dads alike. Goldilocks is a sweet little girl that is fascinated by food and cozy beds, so she helps herself in to take a nap at a nice log cabin, only to be spooked by a family of bears.

This story and the pictures breath a new life into this story. I thought Goldilocks was cute! This story is 'just right'!

Cute book, slightly different than the traditional story but pretty close. My [...] constantly remarks on the fact that the "baby bear" in the story she is used to is called "Little Wee Bear" in this book but she still loves it.

I don't like the illustration of Goldilocks she looks crazy/physco! And I don't like this new version of this book as far as some of the word choices.
