A great book and not just for golfers!,
By Jae Sabol (South Bay - Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Golf Biomechanic's Manual: Whole in One Golf Conditioning (Paperback)
I have spent the past 10+ years in the fitness industry working several years as a strength and conditioning coach and the past five or so years as a corrective exercise specialist. I picked this book up because a local golf pro had been referring me a great many of his golfers for injury rehabilitation and "core conditioning." My knowledge of the game of golf was minimal but having had good success with Mr. Chek's rehabilitation protocols; I purchased this book along with three other books that showed good Amazon ratings. This book was by far the best of the four and also proved invaluable in conditioning and rehabilitation for tennis and hockey players (also rotation dominant sports). With simple terminology, a great deal of diagrams, and a systematic approach Chek describes how to assess yourself for muscle imbalance and movement restrictions, what the affect will be on your golf game, and how to correct the problems uncovered. Chapters include: Stretching, How to Warm-up for Golf, Functional Exercise, Strength Training, and Power Training. Special emphasis is placed on how to design a program for the individual golfer and avoiding the "one size fits all" approach. Proper progression, sets, reps, tempos, and rest periods are indicated for each exercise and abdominal wall function and core conditioning are integral components of each phase of training. Following the programs in this book (there are enough to keep you busy for a year if you periodize them properly) has helped my golfers not only lower their golf score, but lose weight, and eliminate shoulder, elbow, back pain and neck pain as well. The book is good.

For golfers who want to be great and won't settle for 'good',
By Michael Szczepaniak "SeniorTour2010" (Fort Collins, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

I got this book through inter-library loan because it's a little pricy, but I'll probably buy it in the future. I currently play to a 6 hdcp (continuing to fall from 11 over the last 3 seasons) and have a huge golf library and think that this is one of the better books I've read.I used to think I was in good shape and that golf specific physical training would be marginally helpful at best. I'm learning that this is a much bigger piece of the performance puzzle than I originally thought. BTW, most golf pros aren't very saavy about this facet of the game (even some with great reputations). The mental game is also important, but you need a body that can respond to the requests your mind gives it. I don't know of a better book out there that so intelligently prepares the most important piece of golf equipment you have - your body - for optimal performance. You'll also be surprise at how much more confidence you'll have when you've conditioned yourself to swing in a more powerful and efficient manner. This book is well written with very clear explainations around the principals or the 'why' behind the programs. There are also a lot of good pictures and accompanying explainations that clearly illustrate how each exercise should be performed.

A Hole in One!,
By Jennifer Sharpe (Alameda, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Golf Biomechanic's Manual: Whole in One Golf Conditioning (Paperback)
Paul Chek's Golf Biomechanic's book shows us there is more to a sport and how to get more from your game with functional core and coordination exercises corectly. I use this book to show my clients where they are lacking in their swing and when their muscles are not `turning on'. The diagrams are detailed and correct for amateur and for the elite athlete. At my clinic, JS Strength and Health, I also use Gold Biomechanic's for the elite Equestrian riders. Because strength and coordination can be weak at any level and this book show us parallels between many sports.

The best golf training book on the market !!,
By mike emerson (Danville, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Golf Biomechanic's Manual: Whole in One Golf Conditioning (Paperback)
This is far and away the best resource I have seen for training golfers. I have looked and researched just about every book out there on this subject(golf) and there isn't anything that comes close to matching the quality of this book. Well written and most importantly, based on scientific principles. My is advice is to save your money(unlike me) and buy this book first. You'll be very glad you did.

Golfers of every age should read this book because it gives you the logical explanation of what you need to do to improve your body to help your golf swing. The explanations are easy to understand and make sense. My personal trainer, Mike Dahlinghaus, recommended it. One of his best. Frank Pavlica
