Review

From Cliff Schrock, Book Editor, Golf Digest/Golf World
"A great read to pick up from time to time for inspiration."

From the United State Golf Association  website:
... Part of White's one-man effort to increase the awareness of golf poetry is his book, Golf Course of Rhymes: Links between Golf and Poetry through the Ages, which contains nearly 120 works spanning hundreds of years. The anthology is the culmination of six years of research  ...

From Golf.com by Jeff Silverman
Now for something completely different. White, a retired MIT professor, lets the big doggerel eat in an appealing collection that covers the fairways [with poetry by golfers of old.] ...White seasons his mix with contributions from his own pen, and enjoyable commentary from end to end.

From Peter Alliss "the voice of British Golf":
"... Leon White, through months, ye perhaps years of labour, has gone through so many golfing archives to discover what may turn out to be the ultimate in golf course rhymes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have."

From Golfgal-Blog.com
"if you are looking for a gift for someone who loves the links, I would highly recommend Golf Course of Rhymes.  It's a fun and entertaining read ... As Robert Trent Jones Jr. said in his foreword, Golf Course of Rhymes 'is the best round of golf you will ever play without swinging a club.' I couldn't agree more."

From the Author

This book began with a question: "Is there a literature of golf poetry?" Initially using the internet, I discovered a wealth of golf poems dating back to 1638. Looking through long-forgotten books and old golf magazines, I found more than 90 poems and related stories that will add a new dimension to the experience of golf for the reader. I had lots of fun putting the book together. Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the famous golf architect, wrote the Foreword. Larry Lambrecht, an award winning golf photographer, provided the cover.

More About the Author

Dr. Leon S. White, a graduate of Stanford University with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, taught at M.I.T.'s Sloan School of Management and later worked as a health care executive. His love of golf and interest in poetry led him to uncover a vibrant area of golf literature unknown to today's golfers. He is the author of "Golf Course of Rhymes - Links between Golf and Poetry Through the Ages" and an eBook "If Only I Could Play That Hole Again - And Other Golf Poems."

Leon S. White, Ph.D., is to be heartily commended for his recent gift to the literary golf community: Golf Course of Rhymes. Highly informative and entertaining, this annotated historical anthology of the "Links between Golf and Poetry Through the Ages" belongs in the hands of every aficionado of the Game, whether poetically inclined or not. For his tireless (though not entirely selfless) labors and erudition, White can easily be forgiven that twenty percent of the poems in the book are his own, for they are enjoyable as well.

I've shared this book with several of my golfing buddies and it has proved to be a great source of both fun and interest. The poetry may not be great but most of us can relate to the delights and frustrations of the authors.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this innovative book. It is full of interesting information on the history and poetry of golf which one journeys through chapter by chapter as experiencing a golf course. There are some classic golf prints, marvelous poems such as John Betjeman's 'Seaside Golf,'rich reflections on the joys and challenges of the sport, delicious humor and wit.Throughout one is buoyed by the clear delight of the author in his subject. A perfect gift for golf lovers! Susan
