5.0 out of 5 stars There is no shortcut to anything..., July 31, 2005

This review is from: Golf Flex: The Complete Workout: Flexibility and Strength Conditioning for Better Golf (with DVD) (Paperback)
I bought this book in August 2004 and has religiously practised most of the stretching routines outline in the book. The first 3 weeks were close to h*ll, I didn't realize how inflexible my body was - thus to follow the exercises were very hard.

I persevered through the first 3 months and now I have to say; not only the book increases my flexibility, but it saves me from getting some aches and pains after 18 holes of walking on the golf courses and daily aerobic activities. For $10(the non dvd version), I have to say, "What an investment to my body!"

If you expect miracles from this book, i.e. a shortcut to better golf, then this is not the book for you. But if you are looking for specific stretching exercises that condition your body for the game and other athletic activities, then grab the book.

My only comment is; it's kind of tedious to flip through the book while doing the stretching. I wish there is a version that prints every exercises in a poster format so you can frame and hang it on the wall in your workout room at home.

Golf Flex is an excellent guide for both flexibility and strength. If you've ever been confused with stretching for golf as I've been, then read this book. Clear, concise, simple and mirrors the exact protocal of the american collage of sports medicine.

The strength training program designed for golf with Golf Flex is the new cutting edge. Strengthing the slow twitch muscles, improving the posture, and core. Loved the idea that it can be done at home. The program design is very good with the exception of glaringly poor editing.

Comes with a good CD showing how to properly warm-up for your game. Well worth the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars this one might stick, June 12, 2005
This review is from: Golf Flex: The Complete Workout: Flexibility and Strength Conditioning for Better Golf (with DVD) (Paperback)
as the summer is in full swing my mind becomes focused on my golf and my waist line. i have a shelf of golf conditioning books that i have tried over the years, after a couple of weeks they just end up collecting dust.

this year my choice was golf flex.i believe it is an expanded version of an original. it begins with a good expanation of stretching, why it's important, when and how to perform it properly. there is one section titled 'myofasical release' which alone was worth the price of the the book. it gave me immediate relief from cronic sore calves.

i became very skeptical when I turned to the strength exercise chapter and saw that you needed an exercise ball to do this program. Two thing came to my mind, I've got to put out more bucks and two, what the hec does balancing a ball have to do with golf? The author explained the benefits, and I'd come this far so ok I'll bite. well, much to my surprise, dare I say I enjoyed it? The workouts are challenging but doable. I feel stronger in 2 weeks but in a different way than just doing weights. I feel more grounded and stabile. My abs, lower back, butt and hips feel stronger. it makes me feel more connected on my drives. Haven't lose any weight but needed cinch in my belt one notch.

The workout is broken down in 2 levels basic and advanced. This I think was a mistake. it should also have had an intermediate level. They should also have pics next to the program so you don't need to keep flipping back and forth this makes the workout longer than 30 minutes as stated. But once you get the hang of it 30 minutes would probably do it.

It comes with a dvd, which is a nice bonus. It shows 10-minute pre game warm up. I've very pleased with this book, it opened up a whole new world of exercising. I think I might stick with this one
