Book Description

April 1, 1992
In this one-of-a-kind collection, golf authority George Eberl recounts the odd and frequently bizarre incidents that result. The comedic possiblilites are broad, given the golf ball's knack for finding places that were not intended for its presence. Water buffaloes, wild boars, charging rams, passing trains and boats, recalcitrant caddies, earthquakes, and of course, trees-all these and more have helped to complicate and confuse many a golfer's life.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Eberl, a senior editor for Golf Journal and a renowned golf writer and humorist, borrows a quote from Mark Twain for his book's title. He seeks to explain instructively, humorously, even zanily the decisions of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Royal and Ancient Rules of Golf. The USGA and the Royal and Ancient finally consolidated their decisions in 1984. Animals occupy a niche in the decisions: what if your ball drops close to a rattlesnake? In South Africa, golfer Nick Price hit into a herd of boars charging across the fairway. His ball struck the rear end of a beast, lodging in a most delicate location. A free drop was allowed. Similar anecdotes make Eberl's book a hilarious roller coaster ride. Highly recommended where golf literature circulates.
