My favorite golf book!,

Fun to read! Ned tells great stories about the game and about his mother, six-time women's amateur golf champion Glenna Collett Vare.

The Heart of the Spiral,

This review is from: Golf The Money Swing (Paperback)
Ned Vare has created a blend of instruction and metaphysical reflection. If you are looking strictly for a "how to" book, this is probably not it. If you are looking for a good read that is quite unconventional and thought provoking - get this book.
Ned believes the center of the swing is the heart and the motion is a spiral - like a galaxy - not a circle. I was having trouble with my follow through and getting to the finish. His book has given me a mental picture that has helped me considerably. And although I have read some of the other ideas presented elswhere (naturally) I found his presentation very unique and again I like the images. For example - if part of your problem is swinging your arms so they cut across your body, resulting in a very weak swing, Ned uses many images to convey the arms simply going up and down while the body does all the turning. Mr. Vare is not presenting the antithesis to the "Swing the club-head" school nor is it purely the "body swing" thesis. It is a synthesis incorporating fundamentals from both schools of thought. The methods used to arrive at his theories are that of the back yard scientist. Make no mistake - he knows the swing and he knows the game. He is pretty light hearted when it comes to chipping; you need a near perfect hit with a high lofted club - but you can do pretty good with a 6-iron. I guess the translation is "just use your 6-iron". He spends considerably more print on putting than pitching and chipping and again is unconventional in his analysis and conclusion. But this book is primarily focused on the full swing. Of the many writer's of golf instruction, I think I would most like to have a chat with Ned Vare - the ski instructor, sculptor, plumber, philosopher and golf instructor.

This book is exceptional! A complete information about the golf swing that you see on the "tour" and how to achieve it. Really good read too! Thank you Mr. Vare!
