Book Description

July 31, 2004
The first book to explain the rules in an easy-to-understand way, using over 100 illustrations. The book explains the rules of the game and the correct conduct on the golf course in an easy-to-understand way. Instead of dry, legal English the Rules are explained and written in an easy-to-read style. Furthermore it is structured around practical situations and the chapters are arranged in the same way as you would play the course -- from "Tee" to "Green". "Water Hazards", "Bunkers" and "Out of Bounds" being in between! This, combined with the graphically edited photographs for clear visualisation make understanding the rules as easy as ABC. With the extensive index this book will prove to be a useful and reliable reference tool. This book really makes it easy for every reader to gain an overview of the complex set of rules.

From the Author

No other sport has as many rules of play and codes of conduct (etiquette) as the game of golf, and no other sport’s rules are so complicated - making it very easy for players to run into trouble and unintentionally fall foul of the regulations.

But the rules are not only made up of commands and prohibitions, they also grant numerous rights which, for example, allow the golfer to extricate himself from tricky situations without having to forfeit unnecessary strokes. Therefore whether you are able to use relief situations to your advantage or know how to avoid impending penalties, a comprehensive knowledge of the rules will most certainly be of benefit.

However the book does not claim to be complete and therefore is not intended to replace the official rule book. The most important rules are explained but special cases are not considered.

I am convinced that you can benefit from the many relief procedures which are described and that you will enyoy the game much more if you have a sound knowledge of the rules. I hope you will enjoy reading this book and wish you continued golfing success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rules of Golf, September 19, 2004

This is a book you should own! The first section covers etiquette, handicap, slope system and basic golf terms. The etiquette chapter should be required reading by all golfers. The next section takes you through the rules of golf in an interesting way. The author examines the rules in the same way a golfer plays a hole. The book looks at rules on the tee and goes forward to the green. The pictures and illustrations help explain the rules and relief procedures in a clear and understanding manner. The same author has an excellent "Quick Reference Guide" you can carry in your golf bag.

This is the best book I've ever read about the rules. No legalese but plain Englisch, great illustrations and a lot of practical tips on how to save strokes using relief procedures. If you ever had problems understanding the rules of golf - this book is the answer to all your questions!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!! Must Have If You're Serious About Golf....., February 17, 2005

Reading the "Rules of Golf" as supplied by the USGA is like a gas station attendant reading a textbook about IRS Regulations....its impossible to understand.

However, this book was amazing. I read the entire book in 1-1/2 days. It is so easy to read, and as you read it you'll come upon situations where you say "oh, I didn't know that"......as well as a lot of things where you'll say "oh, that's how it's supposed to be played". The pictures are also so clear, concise and understandable that you'll want to keep the book in your golfbag for "on course reference".

Bottom line: EASY TO READ.....VERY INFORMATIVE.....YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE RULES AND NO LONGER HAVE TO GUESS. Period.
