Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Now, golfers can learn from the instructor who has helped Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, David Frost, Nick Price, and Bob Tway. In the most revolutionary instruction book since Ben Hogan's Modern Fundamentals, golfing guru David Leadbetter discloses the swing secrets that transformed the game of the Open and Masters champion Nick Faldo-and which can bring solid ball striking within the reach of any dedicated golfer. The 250 individual color illustrations bring the text to life, showing clearly how a sound golf swing can be developed in a step-by-step manner.

It is just as if David were giving you a lesson in your own home. As Nick Faldo says in his foreword, "What this book will give you is the chance to find out how good you really are."

About the Author
David Leadbetter is the golf and teaching director at the Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, where he lives with his wife, Kelly, herself a professional golfer on the LPGA circuit, and their son, Andrew. Now recognized as one of the best teachers in the game, he numbers among his pupils Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, David Frost, Nick Price, and Bob Tway. He contributes regular instruction articles to Golf World and Golf Digest magazines. This is his first book.

John Huggan, his co-writer, is the instruction editor of Golf Digest magazine. He has written a variety of instruction articles with most of the world's top golfers. A scratch player himself, he was runner-up in the 1983 Scottish Amateur Championship.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but..., March 23, 2004
I'm a fan of this book and it really does break down the swing very nicely. There are some points, however, that quite align with "modern" practices. The grip, for instance, is a little weak compared to what Mr. Leadbetter professes in his more current instruction books. It's a good read, but if you're only going to get one Leadbetter book I'd go for Leadbetter's 100% Golf. It's a little more reader-friendly and covers not only the swing but the short game and putting as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed Breakdown of the Golf Swing, February 17, 2001

This review is from: The Golf Swing (Hardcover)
Leadbetter sure knows the golf swing, and has demonstrated that he can communicate this to others, evidenced by his renown work with some of golf's greats which he has helped.

I find myself in the group which highly respects Leadbetter, but finds that he gives too much. The many mechanical steps with all their relating swing thoughts and helps makes it far too mechanical and detailed for me, as well as for the likes of Bob Tway and Seri Pak who have chosen to go to more of a feel type help.

I find that John Jacobs stuff fits more to what I need from a help book, which can line up with what my ball is doing, and then offer advice to remedy it, rather than break down the backswing into ten steps.

To each his own. Many wiil find this of great benefit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep your hands to yourself, August 5, 1998
By fblum@icubed.com (Finlleyville, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Golf Swing (Hardcover)
David Ledbetter has presented the essential elements of the swing in an easily read and understandable format. After reading the instructions, the only conclusion one can reach is that to have a successful, repeating swing, the hands must be passive throughout the swing.

The book instructs the reader how to accomplish the "hands off" swing while not becoming bogged down in endless, boring details. A must read for any golfer wanting to imporve.
