5.0 out of 5 stars So happy I found this book :)
You have no idea how long I have struggled with my golf swing. I have tried everything and thank god I found this book. It's kinda of silly but after all the money I have spent on golf lessons from the supposed "finest" golf professionals...

I was at a local driving range and started talking to a very nice man about my swing problems he suggested this book and a local...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good book for a beginner
I got this book thinking it would be good for a beginning golfer. I was very disappointed. The concepts were much too difficult for a beginning golfer or just not well written or communicated to the reader. The illustrations weren't helpful either. A much better book for beginners would be the Golf Handbook for Women by Vivien Saunders.

You have no idea how long I have struggled with my golf swing. I have tried everything and thank god I found this book. It's kinda of silly but after all the money I have spent on golf lessons from the supposed "finest" golf professionals...

I was at a local driving range and started talking to a very nice man about my swing problems he suggested this book and a local golf pro, said the book had done wonders for his wife's game. Took his advice read the book and saw the pro. The problem with my swing was the just plain bad information I had received over the years. A couple of the "myths" which are addressed in this book had me going down a "dead end" street.

Just some advice, read this book before get bad habits. I wish I had read this book when i first started playing golf it would have saved me a lot of time, trouble and MONEY :(

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Male Bashing?, June 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Golf Is a Woman's Game: Simple Techniques For Building A Better Game (Paperback)
...I have not been able to find any. Not only that, no derogatory references to men etc. not even the slightest hint. The heart of the book are its myths. The author says that many of these myths have been taught to men, however women seem to be targeted more frequently. The myths are "keep your eye on the ball" "Throw your hips into the shot" "keep your left arm straight" etc there are about 40. I honestly felt that the myths should have been better highlighted (I had to go through the book Highlighting with my magic marker). The author does an excellent job of explaining how these myths will harm your golf swing.

The psychology of the game was great, I particularly liked the chapters on Golf Viruses (I think we have a few contagious one's at our club)and The Subconscious mind, where the author talks about her personal experiences. And my Favorite section was observations on Women and Golf, I guess this is the chapter where the supposed male-bashing takes place, however I did not percieve it as such...I thought they were entertaining stories.

In all this is really a well written, good golf book and one a lot of men and women would benefit reading. I give it an A++++++

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read with excellent pointers, November 19, 2000

This review is from: Golf Is a Woman's Game: Simple Techniques For Building A Better Game (Paperback)
I am a beginning golfer and this book was recommended to me by a friend who is an experienced golfer -- and quite good I might add. She told me not to make the same mistakes that she had made when starting golf. She got all sorts of bad information and ended up spending a lot of time and money straightening out her golfswing. After reading this book i realized that i was already off to a bad start. I've only been playing for about 8 months but I think that I have already been taught or heard every myth listed in this book. I'm now working with a highly regarded golf professional who also recommended this book to me and I am doing GREAT. As my friend did for me, I am recommending this book to all beginners. READ THIS BOOK before you take lessons so you will know what to look out for. It's very easy reading and is packed with information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent instructional book, August 31, 2002
This review is from: Golf Is a Woman's Game: Simple Techniques For Building A Better Game (Paperback)
In another review I read that this is William Jefferson Clinton's favorite golf book. You know since he has left the presidency he has a pretty good swing. Though I feel sorry for the guy because no one believes his scores, as a result he will probably never be accepted as a credible golfer.

Now to this book. No I do not believe golf is a woman's game. It is no ones game. The game is equally brutal to us all. However, I do applaud the author for writing an excellent instructional manual that is also a very pleasant read.
The author believes golf is a woman's game because women (compared to men) lack physical strength so their bodies naturally accomodate for difference through the use of technique. She has a sub-chapter called the effiency ratio where she discusses the amount of physical strength vs distance and she explains that the swings efficacy not the distance the ball travels represents a good golf swing.
A very good book that reveals a lot of myths and one that is definitely worth reading.

And as for William Jefferson, I believe you and keep swinging... it's looking good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf is a Woman's Game great for Guys, December 16, 2000
This review is from: Golf Is a Woman's Game: Simple Techniques For Building A Better Game (Paperback)
Ok, So the title is "Golf is a Woman's Game" but the fact is this book is for any golfer. The author has directed it toward women but this book stands up to the best. We all have been victims of the myths presented in this book. Even though the author claims women are targeted more frequently I've heard my fairshare in my 15 years of golf. Bottom line: If you are a male golfer don't let the title bother you. This book is as good if not better than any by Leadbetter, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, August 28, 1999

The myths addressed in this book are so important. I can't tell you how much money I have spent and lessons that I have taken only to find out I have been practicing the wrong technique. If I hadn't read this book, I don't think I would have ever improved. A word of advice, give this book to your golf instructor and see what they say about the myths. If they teach these myths STAY AWAY, otherwise like me, you will waste a great deal of time and effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, January 2, 1999

This review is from: Golf Is a Woman's Game: Simple Techniques For Building A Better Game (Paperback)
One of the better golf books on the market. Actually it is very similiar to Rick Smith's book "How to find your perfect golf swing" (which is another great book). However "Golf is a Woman's Game" was published before Smith's which leads me to believe the author Horn is well ahead of her time.

I did not agree with all of Horn's theories and found the illustrations to be ok. But despite these setbacks it really was a very excellent book.

I gave it a five star rating and believe a lot of men (who are not intimidated by the title) would benefit by reading this book. It shows how a man's forearm strength can actually hurt his golf game. Any way, I strongly recommend this book, it has some great information, one of my favorites was the chapter "Observations on Women and Golf"....a lot of cute stories.

After reading Ms. Horn's Power Golf for Women I becamed hooked. I tend to slightly favor Golf is a Woman's Game however, it's a coin toss. You can't go wrong with either of these books and I will be looking for a third. Great reading, excellent instruction and tells it "like it is" for the female golfer. Five stars all the way.
