About the Author

Monica Clyde combines a golf conditioning background with 26 years as a student and teacher of movement therapy. After training in therapeutic massage and becoming an ACE certified Personal Trainer, Monica certified as a Pilates Instructor in 1995 with Madeline Black and Jean Sullivan through PhysicalMind Institute. Monica completed her apparatus certification with Nora St. John at Turning Point Studios. At the C.H.E.K. Institute Monica certified as a Golf Biomechanics Instructor. For the past 4 years her Pilates practice has focused on golf clients. Monica is also an avid golfer! Monica is on the faculty of the ACE Academy. She lives in Northern California.

More About the Author

Monica Clyde has been a student and teacher of movement therapy for over 26 years. Initially trained in therapeutic bodywork, she owned and operated a massage therapy clinic for 23 years, specializing in clients with chronic pain.
Monica has spent many years studying different mind/body movement therapy modalities. She was certified in the classical form of the Pilates Method in 1995 and has been a guest instructor at JFK University's Transpersonal Psychology Program.
Monica began golfing in 2001 and quickly became enthralled with the ming/body biomechanics of the game. She is a certified golf-biomechanic instructor with the C.H.E.K. Institute, a faculty member of the American Council on Exercise, and a student of Zen Golf(TM).
In 2004, Monica established The Pilates for Golf Coach (TM), a licensed golf fitness-training program. She conducts specialty PFGCoach advanced instructor training programs nationally. Her program can be found in exclusive golf destination resorts in California, Nevada and Hawaii. Additionally, Monica is a consultant and resource to individuals and facilities developing a golf-fitness program.

This is an excellent book on using Pilates to play better golf. Golf uses the muscles of the trunk to generate power. It depends on balance and good posture for accuracy. The Pilates system specifically focuses on these factors so it is a natural for golf. The author explains the basic of correct breathing and correct posture. She then provides a series of systematic exercise routines designed for golf. Each exercise is explained, illustrated, and the golf benefits are listed. For me there has been a noticeable increase in power, due to more strength and better utilization of my core muscles. The illustrations of exercises could be a little more detailed.

After a severe back spasm, I was told to try Pilates by my golf instructor. He has been doing Pilates for years. I looked for a good instruction book and decided on this one. It covers every exercise in detail and ramps you up slowly so you gain strength and flexibility. Within 3 weeks my back was feeling wonderful. After a few months I could feel the difference in my golf swing. It's been 6 months now and my golf game has much improved and I last 18 holes without getting tired. I now know I'll never have another back spasm and my game will keep improving.

I think this will be a great book, however it very difficult to use via Kindle. I am going to return the Kindle version and get the book version so I will be able to see the charts. This is not a good type of book for the Kindle. And - I love my Kindle, but the one downside of a Kindle is photos and charts.
