Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In the Nineties, athletes are increasingly seeking mental strategies in order to get a step ahead of the competition. Brown, a psychologist who specializes in golf psychology, offers the reader sound sports advice without a costly office visit. In easy-to-understand language, he presents a variety of techniques that address choking under pressure and other assorted mind-sets affecting both pros and duffers. Suggestions for conquering both real and imaginary hazards to the game include imagery, meditation, and goal setting, and questionnaires and self-tests guide the reader through a variety of challenges encountered in the mind's eye. A unique and enjoyable book for public libraries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best round ever., December 15, 2000
By
Dana Mack (Vero Beach Fl.) - See all my reviews
I had the pleasure of playing several rounds of golf with Robert Brown. As helpful as his book "The Golfing Mind" has been to me, his insights and instructions as we worked on my game has been invaluable. I had rarely broken 90 until we started playing together. The best round of my life (83)came in a match with him and a gentleman who for all the world reminded me of Shivas Irons. Perhaps there is a special faternity of great golfing minds and on occassion a neophyte is allowed to witness the wizards at work. The events of that round are burned into my memory and are the standard by which I gauge my game. Thank you Bob.

5.0 out of 5 stars No easy read or quick fix, but filled with golf knowledge, July 15, 1999
By A Customer
I read both reviews before buying the book. Both were right. Not simple entertainment and not quick fixes, but certainly a lot of information. No stories of the tour and a lot of abstract ideas make it less fun reading, but I thought it was better than any other mental game book out there-like the difference between playing a golf course with windmills and Pebble Beach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing depth yet clear and easy reading, January 13, 1997
By A Customer
The only mental game of golf book that goes beyond the simple techniques of visualizing and relaxing. I especially liked learning about how the mind approaches problems, and how it breaks down during tough situations. This one will be on my shelf for a long time and a lot of re-reading
