Damn dude....damn!,

The New Deal does it again. After there first album, which had a few monster hits like Technobeam and Reciever, they come out with yet again another slammin album. Check out the songs Little While, Episode 7, Gone Gone Gone, and VL Tone, they're just plain sweet. This album takes a swing toward a more jazzy sound. Some songs are a mix of I would say Massive Attack meets Propellerheads. This album is well worth buying. Buy the first one too, its self titled, that one is even better.

A bit of stereolab, a bit of st. germaine, and bit of ambient. A very difficult album not to like. Don't blame yourself, a little while, and home are the highlights. The last three tracks are truly great and have that mellow, chill, feel of songs that can be listened to on repeat. Particularly 'home' (the beat that is interjected 2:15 into the track is wonderful on headphones).

I've heard a lot about this band, but wasn't very interested in their live stuff - too loud and pumping. But this record is INSANE - has the atmosphere of St. Germain or Tricky, but musically it is FAR superior. It seems that when they aren't on stage, these guys create music that is so much more considered, intelligent and beautiful. I think this record will blow-up, like moby's play or something, because it's just that good. Buy it.

The REAL Deal....,

Although I didn't enjoy "Gone Gone Gone" as much as The New Deal's self-titled debut, it's still an amazing piece of work. The title track, Gone Gone Gone, is an absolute masterpiece, and even those who dislike electronica and techno will find themselves enjoying this song. Other favorites on the album include Home, Episode 7, Homewrecker, and Don't Blame Yourself. The female vocals on this album are wonderful, but I believe that their presence is one of the reasons I didn't enjoy this album as much. I enjoy The New Deal's music much more without the vocals, and although they included sound bites in their first album, there was no actual singing. Don't get me wrong though, this album is still amazing, and I highly recommend it. If you're interested in electronica, techno, funk, or jazz, check out The New Deal. I promise you won't be disappointed!

The first time I heard this album, I thought it was a bunch of nonsense. Oh, the folly of youth. I don't know what to say about it. I'd like to compare it to another band, but that would be pretty difficult. I guess its similar to The Orb, perhaps the Disco Biscuits. But thats not important. This album is just awesome. Read somebody else's review for verbosity.

After a few listens, it becomes clear that TheNewDeal had a kind of plot line in mind while putting these tracks together into the LP. The album follows an introspective of an imaginary yet relatable protagonist through a relationship, and the reevaluation of the concepts of change and loss that occur through its ups and downs. At some points fast and cutting, at others melodic, the album punctuates the emotional highs and lows of the relationship well, while still proving an enjoyable listen without the context of being understood as such. The album starts very strong, the intro track revealing the audio "theme" repeated throughout the album and best enunciated in the title track. This smoothly bleeds into a strong rendition of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and the said powerhouse title track "Gone Gone Gone." Shortly thereafter though, the album seems to lack the intro's transitional strength and stumbles slightly through several lounge style tracks. Taken individually (including Track 4 "Don't Blame Yourself" with Feist) these make great stand alones, but the order seems to reflect more TheNewDeal's original album concept than what may have worked best for the album's flow. After the compelling "A Little While" on Track 7 and the following Mission Impossible-esque Track 8, the album regains transitional power, and the listener is carried cheerfully through four tracks up until the end (including an instrumental version of Track 8) that fulfill the promise of the beginning. With the recursive "Gone Gone Gone" theme rising again and the quick yet palatable pace toward the end, we are left satisfied yet considering hitting replay of the entire disc to do it all again!

The New Deal is by far one of my most favorite artists. I have traveled the most, and the farthest to see them live. Jamtronic heaven to your ears, not to mention extremely fun to watch perform. I love these guys, and I am most certain you will as well. I'm super excited about the announcement of their upcoming tour locations, and even more so for their confirmed set at WAKARUSA!!! <3

This album is a good album but strays a bit much from their self-titled album that I was first acquainted with. Still a nice collection of songs and interesting electronica.

This is an awesome album, and I just listened to it for the first time through. Their first self-titled album was magnificent, yet this album cannot be compared. Its an Exciting New Direction, as proclaimed on their first album. A little bit more electronic, a little more up beat, and a little bit more vocals all culminate themselves into a fantastic listening experience. By the way, if you get a chance to see them live, do so... I can't even describe it in words. I'd like to list my favorite tracks, but that's your own choice to figure out. It's worth every penny.

While searching the site, I do believe that TND has released previous albums, but this is my first.I initially came across with the single "Little While" upon internet radio. My first listen, and I fell in LOVE with the rhythmn, the song, everything. It has a very sweet, and very catchy... thing going for it. I only feel that this album has only one flaw. And that is "I Feel Love". No, trust me. This song is EXACTLY what you're thinking it is. I mean, not only has that song had plenty of cover versions made by another electronic group [*coughVenusHumcough*], not to mention that I find them most annoying, but they seem to have some sort of bad tinny sound, and just- just... *click* Overall, album is GREAT. That's why I gave it a 5/5. Either that, or I'm a softie. Honorable mention to the title track. [*] Note To Amazon.com: ~ dVm. Aku |
