Book Description

May 25, 2010
The Chases are rich, powerful, and used to getting everything they want. But this privileged African-American dynasty is about to discover that even billions can't buy happiness--or keep trouble outside their gilded gates. . .

Carter Chase is engaged to be married, but he's still not over his ex-fiancée, Avery. And while Avery can't seem to resist Carter's charm in the bedroom, she's terrified by his threats to take their daughter away from her. After all, Avery knows she can't win a fight against the influential Chase family...

In the meantime, Carter's brother, Michael, is embroiled in his own drama, consumed with guilt over the pain he caused his now ex-wife Kimberly. Six months after granting her a divorce, Michael wants her back. But it may take a tragedy to reunite them. . .

The Chase men aren't the only ones struggling with matters of the heart. Oldest daughter Leigh thinks she's done with dating--until she meets black Republican senator Max Cody. The last thing Leigh wants is another high-profile affair, but she finds herself falling for Max anyway. Leigh vowed to avoid another scandal for her family--but when you're a Chase, that kind of promise is impossible to keep. . .

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Putting the diss into dysfunctional, this fifth update in the Winters' View Park series (A Price to Pay, etc.) about the Chases, a black dynasty in California, is as soapy as an episode of Dallas. The Chase Beauty empire has kept the bank accounts of America's most powerful black family healthy while Steven and Janet's sons, Carter and Michael, continue to woo their estranged exes. Avery, Carter's ex-wife, has married Anthony Harper, who uses his disability (although he really can walk) to keep her from returning to Carter, who Avery still loves. Michael wants Kimberly back, although his family still doesn't know about her reckless hooker youth, but the sudden illness of their son, Evan, brings the family together, while youngest Chase sibling, Haley, married to Aussie bad boy Peter Hargrove, just continues to annoy. Luckily, Winter scores with Dr. Leigh Chase, the nicest Chase heir, who runs Hope Clinic for HIV/AIDS patients and whose involvement with black Republican Sen. Max Cody gives this sagging series a major facelift. (June)

4.0 out of 5 stars View Park Series, June 1, 2010
This review is from: Gone Too Far (Paperback)
I must say that I was very pleased with the culmination of the View Park Series. This was such a troubled family with so many hidden secrets that blew up in their faces and money couldn't fix. The heads of the family, Steven and Janet had to learn to love but let go and allow their children to lead their own lives and fix their own mistakes. My favs, Michael & Kimberly learned to let bitternes go and rely on each other while dealing with their sick child. Carter & Avery had to learn to rely on themselves before they would know if they were better together or apart. Leigh found her voice and a possible love and Haley, may decide to grow up and be responsible for her own actions. This was a great book series that I would love to see turned into a t.v. series. I really enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tidy Ending, May 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gone Too Far (Paperback)
While I'm not certain, I get the sense that this might have been the ending of the View Park series. Many of the loose ends were tied, and in a very satisfying manner. I read all of the View Park series books and waited with anticipation for each new one. This one did not disapppoint. What I like most about the characters is that they exhibit a wide range of emotions and varying levels of maturity. Therefore they are believable. Without spoiling the result for anyone, I will just say that in my view, things end as they should. The only nagging questions I have are about Haley (where does she end up) and the Jackson family. Will Taylor or Sean's lives ever have a resolution in the story? In any event, job well done and whether or not it is in the View Park series or something else, I will definitely look forward to reading anything else that Ms. Winters writes.

I really enjoyed all the books in this series. I hate to think this is the last one. I real enjoyed Avery and Carter story, also Kimberly and Michael. I do hope the author will come out with more books in series as this group.
