Dámaso Alonso's Góngora y el Polifemo is an ecxellent work, fundemental for the study of Góngora and for Spanish-language poetry in general. His discussions of the poet's work shed light on this often-cited but seldom-read poet, turning the overwhelming jungle of the Soledades and Polifemo into a land of incredible brilliance.
Aside from the tremendous importance of Góngora's work for the poets of Spain's Generación del '27, Alonoso's discussion of poetic devices is illuminating and improves any reader's understanding of poetry in the Spanish language.
A work of genius that I wish I had read ten years ago.
