5.0 out of 5 stars No reason for Saffire to Hush with their best album, June 13, 2001

Having followed Saffire-the Uppity Blues Woman almost since their inception (I wrote an article on them that appeared in one of the first issues of Blues Revue), I am particularly delighted by their seventh Alligator album which strikes me as their most musically consistent release. There is some fine material hereincluding covers of songs that have not been overrecorded and choice originals. Notable covers include Ann Rabson's vocal on a song written as an answer to Big Joe Turner's "Honey Hush." Andra Faye dispalys how good a singer she has become on the reworking of "Footprints on the Ceiling," Among the most moving numbers is Gaye Adegbalola's "Blues For Sharon Bottom" a topical blues about Virginia court case where a lesbian lost custody of her child for no reason than her sexual orientation. This is one of Gaye's better topical lyrics, which makes its point by its simple narrative and avoids coming across as preachy. Gaye sings wonderfully on this as well as originals like "Coffee Flavored Kisses" and "Happy Birthday to Me." The three play marvelously throughout. Saffire can be bawdy, thoughtful or rollicking, and they are all that and more on this splendid disc.

Saffire is an incredibly great blues band. If you like good old-fashioned blues with touches of jazz and rock, this CD is for you. Also, I got to see them perform live a couple weeks ago and I have to say they are one of the funnest groups I've ever seen. It was a small, intimate venue and the girls made that work for them. They joked between songs, teased the security man, rocked HARD, and entertained us thoroughly. Their musical talent is unquestionable, and their song lyrics really speak to today's woman. Blues isn't really my preferred genre, but I LOVE blues when played by Saffire. Buy their CD's and if you ever get the chance, go see them live! You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Love Saffire, July 29, 2002

You have to buy this CD. It is truly entertaining. My favorite song is "He Really Makes It Hard To Sing The Blues." My friend, Greg has all of their 7 CD's and made sure all his friends went to their concert at Biscuit & Blues in SFran July 2002.

Don't miss this oppurtunity to listen to talented musicians. We need to support such great original talent.

I'm absolutely in love with this group after sampling a free MP3 download. I enjoyed that so much that I bought Hot Flash pretty much at random, and that was so great I was craving more.

I got the MP3 download on this one last night, played it 2X through already and know it's destined for heavy play.

Good rhythms, tasty blues licks, intelligent and adult - I simply can't ask for more! Check them out, their spicy humor and enjoyable music are an unbeatable combination.
