5.0 out of 5 stars Back in the saddle again!, June 18, 2001
By A Customer
Jerry Jeff is back with yet another classic cd. Only Jerry Jeff can make you smile no matter how far life has beaten you down. "Every Drop of Water" is a classic done in Jerry Jeff's great up-beat style. "Let the Ponies Run" is unforgettable too, a tale about the great rodeo riders of the recent past. "Texas on my Mind" was written by son Django and Jerry Jeff does his son proud. I also especially liked "Candles and Cut Flowers", a tribute to Susan, Jerry Jeff's wife. No husband ever showed his love in song better than JJW. "Alright Guy" is one of those hilarious tales that JJW picked up from another writer and relates it like only he can. Jerry Jeff proves he can still make fun of himself with "The Other Jerry Jeff". All in all, this is yet another great cd from Walker, something his fans have become accustomed to. There are many other "big names" selling cds by the millions, but nobody really does it better and has more loyal fans than Jerry Jeff. I hope he just keeps "carryin' on!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Treasure, June 7, 2001
Whoa! This one's a pan full of gold. It's Jerry Jeff's best in quite a while, showing his diverse talents, it includes a wide range of tunes - new Jerry Jeff penned tunes as well as Gonzo-ized versions of "Dang Me" and other covers. Jerry Jeff is a Texas Treasure and this CD shows it. It's a goodun'!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jerry Delivers, June 7, 2001
By A Customer
I guess this album started out to be about certain Jazz standards that Jerry Jeff grew up with, but he got a wild hair down in New Orleans, mainly because he was intrigued by the music of certain individuals, so the Jazz CD will have to wait. But in the meantime he records a phenomenal song written by his son Django Cody called 'Texas On My Mind' which Pat Green took to number 1 on the Texas Charts just when Gonzo Stew was released. Django writes this song as a student at the Liverpool School of Fine Arts kind of as an answer to Jerry's 'May Music Be Your Wings' which he wrote for Django as a song to comfort him on his way. And Django writes a gem here that will prove timeless. Congatulations Django! Every Drop Of Water (Shapes The Stone) is an inspiring song which tells you that 'We're All Diamonds In The Rough'. Jerry picked this song up from his friends Bill and Bonnie Hearne, a married couple who go together like bread and butter as a duet. He plays guitar and sings, she plays piano and sings extraordinarily beautifully. Catch this act in Santa Fe, NM at the La Fonda Hotel (Wednesdays and Thursdays)if your ever in the area. Let The Ponies Run is, in my opinion, the best song on the CD. It brings you right to the hayday of Larry Mahan, Six Time Rodeo Cowboy champion. This is classic Jerry Jeff where he shows off his baritone as he looks back and pays homage to the days when he would play the rodeo circuit. Jerry also covers Todd Snider's Allright Guy. If you don't know who Todd is by now you should. Todd has four albums out now and all are classics. Todd is an extraordinary song writer. Todd writes and performs in the tradition of Jerry Jeff, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver, and ...should I say it?...Bob Dylan (he got over the voice). Don't ever miss Todd live. The first two songs are about New Orleans. The first being 'It Don't Matter', which is a little saying in the Big Easy that kind of says you can be who and what you want (as long as you don't hurt no one) down in Louisianna cause 'It Don't Matter'. The other is 'A Little Old Town Called New Orleans I Know' which basically is in the New Orleans jazz style and describes the good times Jerry has had (and you can have too) there. And last we'll talk about Paul Thorn who wrote 'Where Was I'. This song metions Neil Armstrong's moonwalk, The murder of John Lennon, and Halley's Comet, and relates these events to the desolving of a romantic relationship which he couldn't undertand. Oh, and we must mention his cover of Guy Clark's 'The Cape' which he plays as a duet with Django. The Cape is like your instinct which say's take that chance and have faith in what you do. This, need I mention, is one of the greatest songs of all time. And for the romanticaly reflective moment Jerry sings to us 'Candles And Cut Flowers' which he wrote of his wife's ability to make life more pleasant with detail such as Candles and Flower arrangements with the touch only a woman can give. And then there's The Other Jerry Jeff, the one rolled Jerry in an alley and stole his ID. Dang It! Buy It!
