Book Description

May 28, 2002
The spotlight doesn’t get any hotter than this...

Rachel Marsh doesn’t have time to think about the pampered lives of Hollywood stars. She’s too busy running her family’s Lazy M Ranch in Arizona. But even Rachel has heard of Jackson Stone, the green-eyed movie megahunk known for his sexual prowess both on- and offscreen. Jackson is the last person Rachel would expect to show up looking for work as a cowboy. But that’s exactly what happens . . . and now Rachel has her hands full keeping her mind on the Lazy M--and off Jackson!

After a nasty tabloid scandal, Jackson has decided it would be best to spend a little time out of the public eye. When he stumbles across the Lazy M Ranch, he hatches a brilliant plan: to convince its pretty owner to let him go undercover as a cowboy until things blow over. Jackson sees nothing wrong with spending a little time incognito--especially with a woman like Rachel, who looks as good roping cattle as she does by the light of an intimate campfire. Now, far from inquiring eyes, these two slightly cynical lovers are going to discover just how good they are at being bad . . . and the outcome may be more than downright sexy. It may be true love.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Humor and irony add a welcome tang to Carmichael's sweet romance. After movie superstar Jackson Stone's 13-year-old daughter, Cherie, runs off with a much older rock star, turning her private life into tabloid fodder, Jackson whisks her away to the Arizona hills. There Jackson sprains his ankle hiking and is rescued by feisty Rachel Marsh, the proprietor of the Lazy M Ranch. Captivated by the beautiful cattle rancher, Jackson decides her ranch may be the perfect place to hide out from invasive reporters and prepare for his next role. Rachel, widow and mother of 11-year-old Sam, welcomes paying guests, but her welcome doesn't extend to sexy Jackson Stone, his Hollywood baggage and his difficult, Morticia-like daughter until he offers to work as a ranch hand and pay her very well for her troubles. The city slicker's incompetence and fear of horses as well as the boisterous relationship between Cherie and Sam offer laugh-out-loud entertainment. At the same time, Sam's clever dog, Chesty, provides canine color, and Cherie's New Age movie-star mother adds astral complications. In the midst of the novel's many twists and turns, Carmichael (Diamond in the Ruff) loses track of her secondary characters at times, but her colorful protagonists make this lighthearted romance worth the cover price.

From Booklist

What's a father to do when his ex-wife loses track of theirdaughter, and said daughter is obsessed with looking Goth and runningaway to Las Vegas with a rock star? When you're Jackson Stone, hunkymovie star, you grab your sulky daughter from the rock star'sclutches, put her aboard your state-of-the-art RV, and head to themountains of Arizona. While dragging his daughter on a hiking trip,Jackson falls off a log and hurts his ankle. Lucky for him, help isclose at hand. Rachel Marsh supplements the income on her workingranch by taking in guests eager to experience the West. Jackson viewsRachel's ranch as a means to shelter his daughter from the press for awhile and a way to add some true grit to his next movie role. Jacksonenjoys ruffling Rachel's feathers as he endears himself to herguests. Warm and funny, this newest Carmichael book is awinner. Maria Hatton

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Book!, May 22, 2003
This review is from: The Good, the Bad, and the Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
This book had mixed reviews, so I was a little hesitant...but it was wonderful. There was a lot of sexual tension, but in an innocent, powerful way. A hard one to put down because you get so involved with the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!!!!, October 2, 2002

This review is from: The Good, the Bad, and the Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read several of Emily Carmichael's books and my favorite has always been Jezebel's Sister. The Good, the Bad and the Sexy is even better. I can't remember when I have enjoyed a book so much. I have found myself reading and smiling and laughing. If you want a good, pick-me-up book - open The Good, the Bad and the Sexy. I don't know how Ms. Carmichael will top this one, but I know she will. Highly recommended and highly enjoyed.

The Good, the Bad and the Sexy is a really good contemporary romance with a cheesy title. The book is written very well. The romance between Rachel and Jackson is great, as is the unlikely relationship between their children.
