5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must have for a listener of great music, August 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Good to Be Gone (Audio CD)
WOW, what can I say. I have a friend who turned me on to Soulhat five years ago. I should have married him. I listened to nothing else for 4 weeks after I bought this CD. And I have listened to it periodically since then. Everytime I hear the album I fall in love with it. I put it in the CD player again tonight and was inspired to check out if there was a new album at Amazon. They really have a tight album here. One of my all time favorites. A must have for anyone who is or wants to be a serious music fan. I have no idea why they are not more commercially popular? Maybe the great ones are not appreciated until they are dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, December 5, 2000

This review is from: Good to Be Gone (Audio CD)
soulhat is most certainly one of america's great rock and roll bands, and this album proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt. while outdebox is more acoustically driven good to be gone is straight up electric rock and roll. This record represents soulhats more ornry side and should be heard as loud as you can get it. These four musicians are as tight as a band can be, the lyrics are smart and interesting, and despite the hard edge sound, the funk flows from beginning to end. Soulhat should not be pigeon holed as a jam band, the appeal goes far beyond that. if you are questioning buying this, throw your doubts away, it is well worth the pennies they are asking for, so cough it up, you wont be sorry.

This CD will take you past any expectations you may have. I have listened to it about 20 times now, in the past 2 months, and I love it more each time. I go back and repeat tracks five or six times during the listening. Go for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best CD's I've ever heard, May 4, 2000

This has been one of my favorite CD's since I got it, about five years ago. There's not a bad song on here. It's one you'll leave in the CD player for weeks on end and never get sick of. It's got a funky feel that leaves you wishing it would never end. Killer percussion and funky guitar work combine for an indescribably good groove. A must have for any music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little Soulhat update. . ., April 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Good to Be Gone (Audio CD)
It's weird. . . just when it looked like these guys were about to take off, they just sort of disappeared. I'm not sure why this happened, but after a couple of years of playing in various other bands in Austin, they came back. At first, the new Soulhat only consisted of three people-all the original members minus one guitar player. Recently, the lineup's changed again-now with the same singer, same drummer, new bass player and new guitar player.

The 3-man lineup put out a new album last fall, but I don't think it was distributed by a large label. Unless you live in Austin or maybe Dallas, I'm not sure how or where you can get it.

The new album's good and the band is sounding as good as ever live. Still playing a lot of material from Good To Be Gone as well as a bunch of new stuff. Glad to have them back.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best band you've never heard of, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Good to Be Gone (Audio CD)
I'm with the reviewer who asked why Blues Traveler is huge and Soul Hat is not (I saw both bands together in New Orleans one night; it's still in my top five all-time concerts).

We used to go see these guys all the time at the Varsity in Baton Rouge. Absolutely incredible shows. We'd get baked right in front of the stage, and scream for them to play "Bonecrusher" until they granted our request.

I'm only here to refresh my "Good to be Gone" CD, which skips on "Big Nose." Can't have that....

Couldn't care less what the album costs (well, within reason, of course). This one and "Outdebox" are going to be in my collection for as long as I live.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential CD for your collection!, July 20, 2008

A friend of mine turned me on to Soulhat with the Live at the Black Cat Lounge cassette. I couldn't stop listening to it. It's been ten years since he gave it to me and I still listen to it. I recently took a trip out west ... drove over 5000 miles, brought about ten CDs, but ONLY listened to this the whole trip! Never changed! That's how incredible I think this band is. Truly one of the best bands of the 20th Century. RIP, boys!

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys rule! What happened to them?, January 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Good to Be Gone (Audio CD)
These guys are great. Fun, catchy, jammy, pop rock. Why is Blues Traveler huge and Soulhat is missing. I have not been able to find out anything about this band. If you know anything about them, please email me. Also check out their first record "Outdebox". You can hear both their records on my radio show at WJUL 91.5 fm Lowell, MA

Rock on,

Ron from "Good Morning Sunshine" Mondays 9am-12pm

This is one of the best CD's of all times. Bonecrusher is the best song I've ever heard. I love this CD. This group is an Austin Tradition. Wiggin' is another "don't miss" song. This is one CD I would recommend to everyone. These lyrics are great, the rythem is awesome, and the sound is superb. AAA+.
