PreSchool-Grade 1-- A young boy takes his inseparable companion Sammy, a stuffed toy rabbit, along on a trip to visit his grandparents in Florida. After a pleasant family visit the boy and his mother fly back home only to discover at bedtime that Sammy is missing. The parents make every effort to trace Sammy, but without success. The little boy is inconsolable, but with his parents' loving support he is able in time to accept his loss. After grieving for his treasured companion, the little boy finally accepts a new bunny, aptly named Rambunctious Roger, as a suitable successor to Sammy. The illustrations, which appear to be drawn in colored pencil, ably mirror the story. The soft palette is appropriate to this quiet tale which describes an incident--and the concurrent emotions--which most likely occurs with a certain degree of regularity.
