3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent First Album...
I'd like to drop this album somewhere inbetween the "this sucks so bad" and "i love GC!11" category. 3 stars seems quite appropriate.

This is Good Charlotte's first album. They are not nearly as refined here as they are on, "The Young and the Hopeless" but at the same time that adds a certain quality to it. While their latest album, "The Chronicles of Life...

alright, i heard of these guys a few years back, but never thought much about it. this year i met a girl who had transefered form another school, and started talking to her, and she told me her favorite band was good charlotte. i remembered hearing about them, and so i decided to check them out. i downloaded 'little things' first.it was awesome, so i downloaded some other songs; they were awesome too.i went out and bought both their cds not much longer after that, and loved them. my best friend came over and listened to them, and now she is obsessed with them. i'll give you a review of each song real quick-
1.little things-5/5, awesome song. cool video.
2.waldorfworldwide-5/5 i didnt like this song that much at first, but now its one of my favs.
3.motivation proclamation-5/5 another awesome song, though slower. another good video.
4.east coast anthem-4/5
5.festical song-5/5 another cool single, another cool video.
6.complicated-4.5/5
7.seasons-4.5/5 another slower song, cool.

8.i dont wanna stop-4/5
9.i heard you-4.5/5 didnt like this one that much at first, but now i love it.
10.the click-4.5/5 same as song 9. this was the theme song for the show the undergrads.
11.walk by- alright, but one of the two worst on the cd. 3.5/5
12.let me go-the other worst song on this cd. i always forget about this one. 3.5/5
13.screamer-4.5/5 another one that grew on me. take out the light, start screamin! love that part.
14.change- 4/5 prolly the slowest song, but still good.
this has a hidden track at the end. its pretty good. its a song thanking benji and joel's mother. hence the title 'thank you mom'
overall, i really good cd for any punk-pop collection. or punk-rock. however you wanna classify these guys! i hate classifications. i dont really care about those, as long as i like the songs, who cares what kind of music it is?
anyway, i recommend this cd to people who like sum 41, simple plan, etc. you wont be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy little kids!, August 15, 2002

Ok, I am here as an old fan of Good Charlotte's to see how you newbies rate them. And as Im am reading the reviews I see all of you reviewing to other peoples reviews, yelling about how GC is not punk and then justifying yourself by naming bands like Bad Religion etc. Calm down! First and foremost, Good Charlotte has never once called themselves punks, they're out there onstage for their fans they dont care what you wanna call them. Second, Punk has become not what you think and say but how much money you invest in "punk clothes" and Hot Topic. It is more so a trend now than a kind of music. Dont label a band as punk or not punk until you relize what the punk culture is and what they believe.

I personally am not a huge fan of Good Charlotte's, but this CD helped me through some pretty rough times because of it's happy, upbeat songs and the members true dedication to their fans. So if you want a happy-go-lucky cd I truely suggest this cd to you. Dont listen to the silly wish-wash oppinions of people telling you not to buy it because it's not punk, buy it to support a band that is truly in love with its fans.

Shanks loads for reading this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, Meaningful.....and Amazing...., January 6, 2003

"goodcharlotte2003" (Toronto, Ont Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Charlotte (Audio CD)
First of all, I just started liking this type of music. I never listened to a punk/rock group no more than 2 months ago. At First I heard Good Charlotte's new cd (The Young and the Hopeless), and it really didn't click with me. But then my brother kept playing it and I fell in love with "Lifestyles of the rich and the famous". So i went out and bought that cd. And after that I heard they had a self-titled cd. I listened to my brothers copy, and the next day, I was out buying a copy for my own collection. The songs are extraordinarily written. Especially "Little Things", "Seasons", and "Thank You Mom". Good Charlotte really knows how to write powerful and touching lyrics. They could write an amazing sad and meaningful song, and then go and do a fun, upbeat happy song. Good Charlotte is excellent, and even though I just started listen to punk/rock, they are by far the best group I've heard. Go out and buy this cd, don't burn it, that's cheap. Give them a chance, you will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!!!, February 17, 2003

I first heard of these guys from my friend, and when I saw the cover of their new CD I was like 'Whoa. Kele, what the heck are you listening to???' But after listening to 'The Young and the Hopeless', I realized I wanted to hear more. I bought this CD, and let me tell you: Do not judge Good Charlotte by Benji's piercings and tattoos!!! These guys are real. They write their own music, and they started from scratch! This CD is absolutely awesome. 'Little Things' is so much different than any other song I've heard. It's original. I think my favorite songs are 'East Coast Anthem' and 'Festival Song'. I love how GC takes punk rock and puts some originality into it. This CD is perfect for kids who feel like they don't really fit in, because neither did Benji and Joel. It's also a great CD to put in and just listen to. You can play it from beginning to end because there's no bad song. Not a single one. If you're going to buy this CD, buy the one with the bonus tracks, because you'll also get 'The Click' and 'Thank You Mom'. 'The Click' is one of my all time favorite songs because it just says, 'if you don't want to hang out with me, fine. I'll find someone better'. Kids, if you want to listen to punk rock that won't get you in trouble, look no further. It's right here.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent First Album..., February 15, 2006
This review is from: Good Charlotte (Audio CD)
I'd like to drop this album somewhere inbetween the "this sucks so bad" and "i love GC!11" category. 3 stars seems quite appropriate.

This is Good Charlotte's first album. They are not nearly as refined here as they are on, "The Young and the Hopeless" but at the same time that adds a certain quality to it. While their latest album, "The Chronicles of Life and Death" seems to have suffered OVER-production, this album has been UNDER-produced. I would recommend, if you're new to Good Charlotte, picking up, "The Young and the Hopeless" to hear these guys at their best and then back-tracking to this album.

Still, if you insist on starting with this album it isn't going to kill you. The vocals are straight and clean for the most part. The harmony isn't bad at all and these songs are fun to sing along with. On the down side they do get whiney once or twice, so if you can't stand Avril Lavigne or New Found Glory, you may be turned off by some of the vocals. Overall, I'd give the vocals 4 stars.

The guitar isn't mixed very well in my opinion. It seems kind of, "in the background" not what I want from a rock group. Solos are lacking but the riffs are catchy. Guitar gets 3 stars.

Bass is fantastic, mixed quite well for a rock band. They have a few songs with nice outstanding bass but for the most part the bass sits where it should, holding the song up silently unless one listens for it. Excellent but nothing to talk about. 4 stars.

Drums are also "in the background" at times. And you won't find many beats you'll want to learn to play yourself or get stuck in your head. Overall, it could be better... 2 stars.

Finally, lyrics. Love 'em or hate 'em. That's what I say. I know I enjoy the simplicity found here while others can't stand it. If you want creative lyrics, go buy Death Cab for Cutie's album, "Transatlanticism". If you want some fun rock riffs and hooks, pick up GCs first album, "Good Charlotte."

I hope this has been a fairly unbiased review and I hope it helps you out!

Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite! - the hottest new Talented Five, July 6, 2002
By
Cat (Vista, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Charlotte (Audio CD)
I had barely heard anything of Good Charlotte before seeing them at Warped Tour 2002 - AND THEY WERE AWESOME! I had had some GC songs downloaded but never really listened to them before the Tour, but their energy and enthusiasm - as well as LACK of neandertholithic profanity when talking to the audience - made them the highlight of the concert, and I had to rush out and buy their CD immediately. Good Charlotte's self-titled album is definitely one of the play-it-in-the-car-good-and-loud-while-driving-fast CD's that you just have to love!!! Not only do their melodies make you wanna sing along and jump up all crazy-like, but their moving lyrics give you a sense there's something deeper to these guys than Saturday night debauchery or teenage woes. Punk and emo fans, if you want an awesome CD that you can listen to over and over and not get sick of, I definitely recommend it! Rock on, Good Charlotte!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent punk cd, November 1, 2001

The first time that I ever heard of Good Charlotte is when they opened up for Fenix TX at a concert I went to. I was blown away by their energy and talent. They were incredible live and I went out and bought this cd the very next day. I was not disappointed. There isn't a single song on this cd that isn't listenable, and thats a rarity nowadays it seems. In any case if you like bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41, who are more mainstream, then you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars can't miss with this, December 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Good Charlotte (Audio CD)
All I have to say is you can't miss if you buy this album. I got this album as a gift, never knowing who Good Charlotte was, well the CD had not left my side since. I bring it everywhere I go and I have not grown tired of it. These lyrics come straight from the heart and you can't help but love these guys. I saw them live and the energy they give off is contagious, not to mention the unconditional thanks they send out to their fans. ALSO if you are a parent looking to buy your youngster a punk album but you're a bit concerned about content...LOOK NO FURTHER. GC is a clean CD that any kid can rock out to and you don't have to worry about explicit lyrics...BUY IT ASAP!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Charlotte ROCKS - BUY THIS CD!, June 18, 2002

Good Charlotte is an awesome punk band, and their self-titled CD kicks [rear]. All of the songs on the CD are great, especially "Little Things" "Motivation Proclamation" "Change" and "Waldorf Worldwide". They're songs have good variety from emotional to fun. Its the type of CD that I love to play super loud while driving in my car. The guitar riffs are awesome and the song lyrics are deep and meaningful. Any fan of pop-punk bands like Blink-182, Green Day and Sum 41 will LOVE this CD!! I can't wait for their new one!

This review is from: Good Charlotte (Audio CD)
1. Little Things - very rap-ish but still catchy, the verses are better than the chorus - 5/5

4. East Coast Anthem - amazingly catchy, another favorite - 5/5
5. Festival Song - very good punk song, great instruments and vocals - 5/5
6. Complicated - sort of rap-like, still ok but not a favorite - 3/5
7. Seasons - a ballad, nothing special, the lyrics may seem corny - 3/5
8. I Don't Wanna Stop - great song, i love the vocals - 5/5
9. I Heard You - ok, a basic punk song, the verses end funny with that line "i get the point" it just sounds strange, still its ok - 3/5
10. Click - very catchy, great lyrics - 5/5
11. Walk By - average, punky - 3/5
12. Let Me Go - same as walk by but still decent - 3/5
13. Screamer - a ballad but its moving, and always fun to hear - 4/5
14. Change - another poppy ballad but the vocals are done well - 5/5
15. Thank You Mom - a hidden track about a minute after Change, it is a great acoustic piece and shows that they are nice guys under the "im so punky" attitude. 5/5
