Good Company is a great read for anyone who liked Into the Wild. Doug Harper is the real deal, hopping freights and living the tramp life with all manner of men, from the stand-up old-timers to human predators and escaped convicts. It's a fascinating look into a stark world of survival depicting the trials and tribulations of those who chose to live honorably (or not) outside the accepted norms of society. Engrossing.

This is a classic. It will endure and remain an exemplar model of social science research at its best. If there were a Novel Prize in sociology, this would merit such a prize. One of a kind. A must read. Carol Griffith Davies, Ph.D. Duquesne University

Good Company is a true way of looking at the tramp lifestyle from a man who has lived it. I was taught this book by Dr. Harper at Duquesne University, and his passion and intelligence is rivaled by none. I believe his joy for teaching this book grows each time as he remembers more and more from his travels. I had the honor of taking Dr. Harper for another class while at Duquesne and his passion for that class was just as contagious as Good Company.

Book is okay. It's kinda boring. I actually had him as a professor too when reading this book; he isn't very nice either.
