Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This guidebook offers a fresh take on an age-old profession. Putting aside social taboos and dispensing with academic distance, this volume addresses all the concerns, challenges, and benefits involved in choosing a career as a call girl or escort. Written by an award-winning entrepreneur of the sex industry, and relying upon research and anecdotes from dozens of veterans of the trade, this guide includes frank, insightful discussion of every conceivable issue an escort encounters on a day-to-day basis—from building relationships with clients and making sound business decisions to steering clear of risky situations and coping with the psychological pressures of keeping one's career secret from friends and family. A chapter dedicated to clients is also included, with equally informative advice for keeping them in the know.

4.0 out of 5 stars If and How to Become an Escort, August 9, 2008
It's amazing how many guidebooks there are in print about "How to Become an Escort, Dominatrix, Mistress, Sex Worker, Porn Star", etc., etc. It reminds me of two decades ago when I was heavy into sport karate and while at a tournament I purchased a book with the title of something like "Lethal Techniques Using the Fighting Sticks" (That wasn't the exact title by the way, but it was close) and I was shocked that books on that topic had actually been published at all. It apparently was not that unusual in this world where "Soldiers of Fortune" employment opportunities and "how to build an atomic bomb" material is readily available on the Internet. Compared to that kind of subject matter, guidebooks on how to become part of the sex industry are pretty dull stuff.
This one is written by an "Award Winning Escort Agency" founder and owner in the United Kingdom where sex workers are much less frowned upon by the general public than in the USA. The reader should be aware of that fact when reading and practicing the advice in this sex worker manual. The author's experience includes managing a dungeon and having been a player "in the areas of dome and sub work, text sex, phone sex, glamour photography and erotic art, and in her teens she briefly worked the hotels of London as a sex worker." She uses this experience base to write her guidebook.
She also uses the words and experiences of several anonymous sex workers in each of the types of sex industry work described. Would-be escorts can judge from the experiences of these girls whether they are suited for that line of work and if the potential rewards justify the sacrifices of the profession.
The other forms of sex work she discusses besides escorting are stripping, domination, submission, text and phone sex, glamour modeling, porn, maiding, driving/security, independent escorting, and street work, the last of which she advises against as much too dangerous from every possible standpoint. The personal safety of the escort and the mental attitudes necessary for maintaining psychological health are emphasized throughout the book. The "how to's" of getting started, working with agencies and/or brothels, dealing with clients, becoming an independent escort and the business of going about that including the secrets of the Internet and Internet advertising are all discussed as is "paying taxes" and saving for retirement are all detailed. This is no-doubt one of the better guides for the woman or man who wishes to become an escort or is considering taking part in any of the related professions. The author shares many secrets for being successful in the business. She also throws out many personal, and often amusing observations about the escort's typical clients and being aware of the media that is almost always interested in screwing the escort much worse than any nasty, psycho client. Beware of the media because they can put you out of business faster than the law. They will not only destroy your busines and your reputation but also expose your secret life to the world. As one tabloid journalist admits "It's not about art; it's not about justice. It's not about the moral consequences of the story for those involved...the more salacious or sleazy the angle, the bigger the pay cheque. Sex Sells, but sleazy sex sells more."
If a person is in dire need of extra money for whatever reason and is considering becoming one of the world's millions of "sex workers" this is a good book to start with. The author tries to convey to her reader the realities of escorting and then if the reader wants to go further, she gives many details about how to go about it and stay safe and sane. She also advises how to avoid being taken advantage of and having to do things she simply does not wish to do. The would-be escort should also investigate some of the other books currently available on this subject. "The Business Side of Escorting II: The Escort's Guide..." by JD Roberts is one that is more focused on the escort business in the USA. Both these guides have lots of good common sense and practical, semi-legal advice (from non-lawyers as they carefully point out) along with the details of how to go about getting into the business and remaining safe while living two different lives. The escort related business is one of the most profitable businesses in the world no matter how bad the economy is in the nation in which it takes place and that includes every country in the world at any period in history.
