I bought mine years ago. I was very happy with it. But it did get old. I suspect it's because I didn't read the instructions and it seems that this scoop is not dishwasher safe. I used to throw it in the dishwasher. Anyway, I was rather annoyed when the non-stick coating went bad, so I went back to using my old stainless steel scoop. Well, it didn't take me long to realize how annoying that one was compared to the Good Cook Smart scoop. The ice cream would stick and there was no way to make a real nice ball. So I went on a search for a new Smart Scoop. After shopping around I found one at Albertson's for $6.99! Lower price and no shipping, sounds like a much better deal doesn't it?

Picked this up on a whim a few years back at a local kitchen outlet. Best ice cream scoop I've ever used. The inside of the scooper is beveled, and it cuts through both hard and soft ice cream with ease. It has a nonstick coating so you just have to open your hand, and the scoops always fall out perfectly shaped. It is not dishwasher safe, but cleans up easily with soap and water.

Not sure why it's no longer on Amazon. If you'll pardon the pun, scoop one up if you can.

I really like this scoop. It works great and I get perfect looking scoops. My only complaint is that I have tiny hands and when scooping hard ice cream, it is really difficult to hold the scoop without my hand cramping up. Good thing I can get the hubby to help! So if you have little hands, please take into consideration that you will have to be clamping the scoop closed while scooping your ice cream.

Pro:

- Easy to clean; simply rinse it after use; minimal number of moving parts.
- Ice cream scoops easily come out ant do not stick.

Con:

- Incredibly painful to scoop ice cream. Not ergonomic; cuts into my (small man's) hands during every scoop due to the two other cons listed below.
- No grip. Your hand slides up and down the handle.
- Ice cream scoop naturally springs open, requiring you to grip the handle very hard during scooping.

My preferred ice cream scooper looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001J84094/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p79_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1EHS1DJAP1CN9DZGK0MZ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

The older ones are generally better, in my experience, as they have lasted so long.

I had high expectations for this scoop, but I quickly found it quite unpleasant to use.

t's well made and feels great, but the problem arises in squeezing the handles together while scooping: it's just hard to do. Maybe it's because my hands are small and girly, but after each scoop I wanted to rest my hand before attempting to get another. (And scooping cold ice cream without getting your hands sticky is hard enough without having to also hold the scoop together.)

The final drawback for me is that the scoops of ice cream end up being huge. The "bowl" of this scoop has a diameter that's more than 50% larger than my old generic scoop. This wouldn't be a problem, except that it means each scoop has to move a lot more cold ice cream, and that makes it even harder. Not only that, it's very difficult to jam the front edge down into the ice cream because it is so wide. They've clearly made attempts to "sharpen" it, but it was still too hard for me.

I suppose this scoop may be fine for you if you have great grip strength, but I'm a healthy adult and it's WAY too hard for me. It did excel at one of its advertised benefits: letting go of the ice cream when you want to drop it in the bowl. But this scoop made ice cream *less* fun, not more.

I've been much happier with this excellent scoop by OXO: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BEDQL2/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's a delight to use and is by far the best ice cream scoop I've ever encountered.

I shopped long and hard, crazy as it may seem, for a halfway decent ice cream scoop. I bought a couple of cheap, flashy, and ultimately worthless POS scoops from other manufacturers, that barely made it out of the box before crumbling to pieces. This scoop might not be the prettiest and trendiest-looking one, but it is 100% solid and functional. And believe me, I did a LOT of shopping around before I bought it.

Expensive for what it is and don't see much difference in simply using a spoon. The scoop is well and solidly made but isn't easier to work than a spoon for me.

After years of searching for the best ice cream scoop and many disappointments, my husband and I found the GoodCook ice cream scoop. It is BY FAR the best scooper ever made. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's the only one that ice cream doesn't stick to, you can scoop and place with one hand, and the quality so far is perfect for durability. I hope it never wears out!
