Balm for the Soul,
By Maree Gallagher (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Day No Rain (Audio CD)
Bill Deasy, former frontman for The Gathering Field (Lost in America, Atlantic Records), has once again released an album of uplifting emotion and lyrical poetry that is balm for the soul in these troubled times.Good Day No Rain, Deasy's second solo release, is a masterful collection of accessible roots rock, layered with human emotion and ultimately, redemption. Deasy's voice has a unique comforting quality, a timbre that somehow reassures us, like a long talk with an old friend. (Other singers who I think possess this comforting quality include James Taylor and Peter Yarrow...)Standout tracks include "Blue Sky Grey",describing a man whose conscience faces off with his darker side, "In My Head", a man fantasizing the scene of his forgiveness, "It's All Right There" a song that puts life's struggles in perspective... "Fear feeds the hunger only love can fill, though others claim they will. "Why resist it? Love is at your side, even when you run and hide... The answers you left home to find... it's all right there..." and the inspiring "Gift of Seeing Through" - "An honest prayer is like a midnight train; it's gonna take you there through the wind and rain..." Deasy's music will get in your head, and you'll find yourself looking for excuses to play it again and again. The message is hopeful, spiritual, and most importantly, musical. It's all right there...

Great, Great CD! Listen, and you'll be hooked too!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Good Day No Rain (Audio CD)
No words can more appropriately express Bill Deasy's words and music than his very own! You have to hear him to understand how it is that those who have discovered this artist love him. For me, it was a chance discovery - hearing this amazing, warm voice on the radio only once made me call up the station and find out who it was. I haven't stopped listening to "Good Day No Rain" since I bought it and have enjoyed turning other people onto him. I've since discovered that I'm not alone here - I've read other reviews of people who share my passionate sentiments and with one or two listens, you'll be hooked too. The only thing that's a shame is that is was such a chance discovery - why is it someone like him isn't more well known? Great singer, great melodies and thoughtful lyrics...well, I just don't get it, but I sure do feel lucky to have found him! Great, great CD! Next thing that would make me really happy is to get a chance to see him live!

New Sounds-So Good,
By
This review is from: Good Day No Rain (Audio CD)
Bill Deasy's new, harder rocking sound (showcased on GOOD DAY, NO RAIN) is a musical revelation that actually enhances what has always been pure Deasy. The ramped up beats, intensified backtrack, and fresh vamps challenge Deasy's voice to rise to new heights, which it does beautifully! The resulting sound is strong and clear with heightened nuances in vocal note work elicited by the supporting sound. The often upbeat music combined with the moody lyrics of many songs give a great ironic (and just plain fun) twist to the work. It communicates an unpretentious sense of humor that has never come through so clearly before. It feels as if Deasy is letting us in on the joke. Where pure folk seems at times to dwell, GOOD DAY NO RAIN seems to wink. It is as if it is saying, "Okay, I'll show you the pain and the hope and the love, 'cause all those things are real, but I'm also going to show you that I see both sides...the having of the emotion and the view of myself from the outside while I'm having the emotion." In this journey to inward truths, GOOD DAY NO RAIN taps the universal to share many truths that resonate.
