Doc Watson at his youthful zenith,
By Bill Gittleson (Blackstone, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Deal! Doc Watson In Nasvhille (Audio CD)
Doc Watson is terrific as a solo flat picker or balladier but this CD showcases his talents with an extraordinary group of musicians. This CD has one of the most powerful renditions of June Apple you'll ever hear. Shady Grove is everyone's favorite and this version combines Doc's soulful voice and guitar with the vital banjo of the great Don Stover. The Train That Carried My Girl From Town will fill the room with Doc's twelve string guitar and crisp solos from the band. One of Doc Watson's most endearing qualities is his ability to share the spotlight and let the talents of the other musicians make a sparkling CD.

This is a gem of traditional folk and bluegrass songs.,
This review is from: Good Deal! Doc Watson In Nasvhille (Audio CD)
This is my favorite early Doc Watson album. The song selection of lively folk tales is excellant. The bluegrass emphasis and picking/fiddling is Doc and his backup musicians at their absolute best. I have been looking for years for this in records stores and could never find it. If you enjoy Doc, get this CD, it is pure joy to listen to.
