5.0 out of 5 stars Best Unheard Band of the Decade, October 17, 1999

About three months ago I was given Over the Rhine's "Darkest night of the Year" and was thoroughly impressed. That inspired me to look for more of their material and brought me to this album among others. This album flows with beauty and character. I find myself looking at their style and trying to compare it to other quality bands such as Cowboy Junkies, Renaissance, and at times Velvet Underground, but realize that they are on a level uniquely their own. Great musicianship and a Diva's voice bring the listener perhaps the most interesting band of the Decade. Sit back and enjoy quality music.

Probably the best birthday present that anybody has ever got for me.

People said that it sent shivers down their spine, that and tears in my eyes.

It just blew me away.

If you love anybody then buy it for them, they will never forget you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the decade, August 26, 1999
By A Customer

This album blew me away upon my first listen and continues to give me goosebumps. "Latter Days" is simply one of the greatest songs ever recorded. "Go Down Easy," "Etcetera,Whatever," and "Poughkeepsie" are all classic songs as well. Karen Bergquist makes full use of her voice, a voice that is touched by God. The arrangments are simple and beautiful and every song has a unique feel. This band is amazing. I rank this up there with The Innocence Mission's "Glow" and U2's "Achtung Baby" as one my favorite albums. If you are reading this and have not heard this band, GET THIS ALBUM!
