5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent book by Mr. Walker

2.0 out of 5 stars A Good Dude
I could not finish reading this book. I got halfway through the book and realized that all the so call trials the main character went through were self-inflicted. I refuse to invest any more time in a main character that, in my opinion, is very stubborn and stupid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent book by Mr. Walker, November 7, 2010
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Candace is a young lady brought up with every advantage and falls for a rapper/drug dealer. She runs away from home to be with him and that's when it all starts falling apart. She realises after getting pregnant that his focus is more on dealing than rapping and when he gets busted, her world is in a downward spiral. I don't want to completely spoil the book for anyone, but the trials and tribulations Candace goes through end up being the making of what becomes someone with a very fine character. The thing that intrigues me about Mr. Walker's stories is how he manages to make you really care about his characters; you quickly have a vested interest in wanting to know what becomes of them. While this is a love story, and Candace does find her good dude, it's a fun ride at times, but you also share in her rocky times and enjoy seeing her come out on the other side of that. It's also a story of family and the people who'll stick by you no matter what. All in all, I highly recommend this book. I started it yesterday and couldn't put it down until I finished it! Buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, December 1, 2010
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
I must say that I really enjoyed this book!!! I always do a lot of reading and sometimes try out some of the authors that are really just hitting the scene. Keith Walker won't be a newcomer for long, the way he's able to put a story together is so entertaining. I was drawn in from the first page and I actually read THE WHOLE BOOK in one day!! I didn't even stop for lunch, I kept reading while I ate, it was that good!! The characters draw you in from the very beginning and you actually care about what happens to them. And it's not written like some fairytale, the young lady in the story ends up dealing with some real consequences because of some of the decisions that she's made. And she shows, realistically, that you can come back and make a real life for yourself even after all the chips are down. It's a great read that doesn't try and glamourize things like drug dealing or prison, it's real, and you can get that while you're reading this book. It's the 3rd book I've read by Mr. Walker and it certainly won't be the last, he's made a true fan out of me!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Dude Is A Better Than Good Read!, November 25, 2010

This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read a lot of books in the span of a year. And to be honest, at least half of the time I can't look at a the cover of a book and specifically remember the story. That however will not be the case with "A Good Dude" - this book will definitely be amongst the few standout novels that I've read this year. Keith Walker showed me with this book, that he is adept at bringing you in to a street level romance and elevating the experience with characters that you come to care about enough to cheer for and wonder about after you've read the book. I hope there is a sequel to this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Should Have Listened, December 9, 2010

This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Candace believes in freedom and having the ability to make her own choices. Candace also has a problem with listening to her parents, which leads her down the wrong path. In A Good Dude by Keith Thomas Walker, Candace is an average teen in love with rap music, who decides to sneak out of the house to go to a concert. Rilla is performing and Candace does not want to miss it. What is supposed to be an exciting night turns into a private party and an invitation to leave home.

While Rilla is performing he spots Candace in the crowd, brings her on stage, and sings giving her all of his attention. After the concert, Rilla convinces Candace that they should be together. He convinces Candace that she does not need anyone else but him and she decides to run away from home to be with him.

When an unsuspected event takes place, Candace finds herself in over her head. The life she dreamed of starts to fall apart and she soon realizes that she is in need of help. Candace will find the help she needs but from some interesting resources.

A good dude is hard to find so when one comes around you have to be able to distinguish good from bad. The dynamics in this book were interesting. The dialog between characters was well-developed. Having previously not read anything from this author, I can say that the twists and turns of events were exciting and I was thrilled with the ending. I recommend this book to others and look forward to reading more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's All Good, March 13, 2011
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sheltered all her life, seventeen-year-old Candace Hendricks thought she had all the answers. When she attends a rap concert that she was forbidden to attend, her life is changed forever. Candace finds herself in Texas with no family, a boyfriend that is no longer in the rap game and has turned back to selling drugs, and a bad feeling about who fathered the child she is carrying.

While attending community college, Candace meets Celestion "Tino" DeLeon. He is a good guy that makes Candace long for all that she knows she is missing out on. Candace keeps Tino at bay because she knows that she does not want him mixed up in the drama that is going on in her life. However, when she declares herself single, Tino is there waiting to give her some type of normalcy in her life. When things go from good to bad to worse, can this good girl gone bad fine her way back home?

A Good Dude by Keith Thomas Walker is a novel that keeps it real. It gives you the good, the bad, and the ugly truth of what it's like when you get in too deep. Walker paints a vivid picture with his word choice and does a great job with character development. Walker also does a good job with keeping the plot flowing without lagging moments. A Good Dude is a pretty good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keith Walker's Still Going Strong!, November 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow. That's about all I could say when I finished this book. But then I sat down and came up with more stuff to say because I absolutely HAD to review this book. I read Mr. Walker's first book (Fixin' Tyrone), and I loved it. I loved his second book (How to Kill Your Husband) too. All of my favorite writers let me down sooner or later, so I didn't know if I would be let down with A Good Dude. Let me tell you, I was NOT let down! I have to say I love this book more than Mr. Walker's other two books. This story is about a runaway from New York who struggles to pull her life together after things get REAL bad with her rapper boyfriend Rilla. This book has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. I literally can't say anything else about it without spoiling the surprise for you. So I'll just say this: Buy this book! You will not regret it. Kudos to Mr. Walker! I'm already waiting for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Dude: A Good `Shero' = A GREAT Read!!!!, November 13, 2010
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Keith Thomas Walker does it again with another excellent read, Good Dude teeters on the brim of urban fiction/romance quite well.

Candace is like any other teenage - rebellious, and her actions have some serious consequences...but Candace does have a redeeming quality - she is focused on her education and she has ambition. Rather than fall into the huge cracks called the system, Candace picks herself up, brushes herself off and is the shero of this engaging story.
Mr. Walker delivers a power message in Good Dude that is realistic and relative to today's culture. I thoroughly enjoyed the supporting characters in this story as well. Rilla, CC, Trina and Tino are all wonderful additions to this story.

Good Dude is a great read for young adults as well. Mr. Walker does an excellent job of making a common story dynamic and engaging! I also enjoyed the Texas setting as well as the racial environment in Good Dude. Kudos to Keith Thomas Walker and his successful transition into urban fiction! Good Dude is an excellent book that kept me engaged from the first page - I could not put this book down!

I STRONGLY suggest this book for young adults as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Dude - A Good Read!, November 8, 2010
This review is from: A Good Dude (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Purchased this book Saturday, read it in a day! It's definitely a page turner. Story line was well written. My take on the characters: Loved how Candace finally got it together, stopped all the crying, and did something with herself. CC - wanted to beat him down or for him to even die would have been nice. LOL. Rilla - pathetic! Wasted talent! Trisha- loved her role-glad she pushed Candace to keep going even though she wasn't doing much with her life. Tino - the cutest! And a good dude - just like the title!! I've read Mr. Walker's other titles as well, he's really blooming as an author. He's able to capture the readers heart with characters who are decent and just have issues like all of us and do what they think is best to get through them.
