following solar fire, original earth band puts together another great album. the good earth would be followed by nigthingales and bombers, the last with mick, chris and colin. just a must for any collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Good Mann, very good indeed!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: The Good Earth (Audio CD)
As my second favorite MMEB album after Solar Fire, I couldn't believe this was not reviewed yet. This was the brief yet brilliant creative peak of the band for my taste at least. I did not follow them into the pop world which proved no doubt lucrative nor was I much of a fan of early material which hasn't aged well, unless this was part of your life soundtrack and thus will always be treasured, I understand. But back to the Good Earth, which carried on in much the same vein as Solar Fire, I was listening to FM rock radio back in those days, WMMS in Cleveland and consequently introduced to many fine progressive rock bands, Golden Earing and Brian Augers Oblivion Express work back then were also peaks for those bands. Yet, as much as I've sampled, searched, bought and been dissappointed by other releases by the Earth Band, none compare, start here, with Good Earth and Solar Fire, I've not yet seen reason to go beyond. Those rabid fans out there, please give me a tip if you will, what else in the catalog is of this style and caliber?

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!, January 4, 2012
This review is from: The Good Earth (Audio CD)
By now, having grown up in the southwest in the seventies, I've become used to the fact that none of my musician friends were ever aware of this album and I still enjoy turning people on to this Prog jewel. I was unfamiliar with Solar Fire when I first heard this one. Although I think Solar Fire is a very good album, for me, nothing before or after stacks up to The Good Earth. I love the way the songs were threaded together celebrating the lost art of theme albums and the double-track guitar work is very, very well done. I would love to have witnessed them perform this album live. I strongly urge new listeners to listen to this from start to finish a few times...there's a lot to take in!
