On album Good [Explicit] (released via Public Nu-Sense), rapper Dustin Case, mixes a little bit of old-school with new school over the course of 13 tracks. Anchored down by catchy rhymes and sound production work - particularly the drum programming - Good is a fresh, west-coast rap affair.

Case sets things up on "Intro", a full length track with spare production work focused on Case's rhymes. The hook may be wordy, but Case makes sure it's both catchy and effective. "Pachooey Chomp Stomp" is corny all the way, but irresistibly so. If the "Intro" had its lyrical absurdities, "Pachooey Chomp Stomp" takes it to the next level, referencing childhood songs and rhymes ("Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" gets love). As always, the beat is the anchor and Case's agile, ludicrous rhymes have an endearment about them.

"Sometimes I Get So...", featuring S.B.D. Crew, opens mysteriously, keeping the listener `on their toes' to see where the MC/production is going. Benefiting from a solid hook riding a hi-hat prominent beat, Case keeps things creative, even at little more than two minutes. He softens up on "Lovely Ones" in theme only where he has lovin' on the mind. Sure he adulates his potential catch ("...you're looking kinda fly..."), but not without some trash-talk makes this cut straddle the line of love and lust. U Raw guests on "Hated on Myspace", a cut shy of a minute and a half that packs a surprising punch. The production is lazy and repetitive, epitomizing west coast sensibilities. The loopy synth provides perfect fodder for U Raw and Case to trade rhymes.

Pretty dope album right here. Loved the mix of old-school/new school. Good energetic hip-hop coming out of Cali with a bit of the funk to boot. Some tracks remind me a bit of Tribe. Tracks I hit repeat for are "Crave the Life" and "Get Busy". With all the same old same old on the radio these days its good to hear some refreshing and original rhymes and know that yes, there is still talent out there. "Good" is mislabeled: it should be called GREAT (maybe that'll be the follow-up).

Sweet little album. This is some pretty chilled hip hop, the lyrics are tight, the beats are tight, and the price is right. I was playing this in my store where I work the other day and my co-workers were like "who is this"... well if you don't know, now you know! Download "good" if you want to listen to some real hip hop.

I bought it because I have some other stuff this dude was on. The beat on the song Get Busy is bad ass.
