Format: Paperback
I read a sampling of this book, and from the few chapters I read, the author seesm to think there are two kinds of people in this world, "them" and "us," "us" being the right ones, of course. I couldn't take seriously the author's proposing to think he knows what all liberals think, believe or feel, or his simplification of morality in that if you're not adhering to the Bible then you're pretty much godless. And the suggestion that family only means a male and female parent, which excludes all of the single parents out there (whether or not single by choice) or the gay parents that adopt children out of foster care. I wish these self-righteous conservatives who cry out against abortion would follow their own words and realize that God judges us by our actions, and then they'd stop picketing funerals and planned parenthood agencies and get some of the 500,000 plus children out of foster care and thereby address one of the root causes of abortion (poverty, lack of social support) instead of moralizing. What deeds are you conservative moral superiors going to be judged on? That you went to church weekly? I seem to recall Jesus saying, "judge not lest ye be judged," (though I'm not a good enough bible beater to be able to quote exactly which chapter/verse etc.)
Anyway this book is too full of generalizations, false assumptions and self-serving collection of moral diatribes to be taken seriously. Just one more conservative crying foul over everything they see someone else doing but are doing themselves.

Ibbetson does a great job of setting up his book by explaining the difference between modern day conservatives and liberals. He goes on to explain the issues that currently plague our country, and why we need people who will "tell it as it is", despite the current trend for political correctness. Make no doubt, American citizens, there are problems in this country. The Good Fight spells out these problems without sugarcoating the nasty things we don't like to talk about. Issues such as terrorism, abortion, homosexuality, immigration, and much more are discussed with thoughtful analysis. Even for someone who considers himself to be a moderate, this book had much to offer me. I am glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to understand todays politcal issues.
