chemisty and sex appeal here.,
This review is from: As Good as the First Time (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked this book, but didn't love it. The Main characters had an interesting dynamic and that kept me entertained. There is a thin line between love and hate, yeah? I would have preferred the female lead, Julia was a bit more strong through out the book. How can a woman so comfortable at her job and comfortable with her sexual presence be so weak minded that she leaves a lover based on what others think of their relationship? I didn't buy it.Similarly, the book reminded me that family ties- blood-- can sometimes NOT be thicker than water. SMH However, I loved the idea of the two of them together and kept rooting for the home team. Enjoy.

Great summer read...fun and romantic...,
This review is from: As Good as the First Time (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
As Good as the First time....this is a wonderful fun summer read. Julia and Cortez were in love..the lasting kind of love. Then, of course, something happens and Julia leaves...then a certain set of circumstances set them on the same path. It was fun to see them circling around and around each other, plotting, wishing and thinking way too much about each other. Then do they really find out if it really is "As Good as the First Time"? To find out, pick up this wonderful summer read...as always, Ms. Washington has a real winner on her hands...

So I read this entire book in one day. The character's were well developed and the story was well written. Although there was something in the story that made me not give this 5 stars. I felt like there were too many road blocks and hurtles to get around. It just seemed like everytime you felt they would get together, they didn't. So I gave it 4 stars because I do love the chase in these romance novels. It makes reading them worth while.

The love scences in "As Good As the First Time" were hot, but there were other elements that bothered me:1. How messed up was Cortez's family? From his brother's deception to his mother's unfounded hatred for Julia. I felt as if Cortez's mother's hatred of Julia was a focus of the book, but the true reasons for the hatred were never fleshed out. Julia's mother mentions it in the book, but the readers still don't get good clarification on the issue between Cortez's mother and Julia. She seems to hate Julia because she and Cortez lived together for several years. I'm not buying that as the reason for the tension between her and Julia. 2. The two main characters went back and forth a few times too many for it to seem realistic. At some point, they should have just been through with each other. Each person kept threatening to end the relationship, but one bout of hot sex later- they were back together again. |
