5.0 out of 5 stars The book is great with good recipes and easy directions, December 27, 1997

This review is from: Good Food for Camp and Trail: All-Natural Recipes for Delicious Meals Outdoors (Paperback)
My wife picked up this book for me because she had heard me complaining about my own cooking on the trail and the few books I've been able to find to improve those skills. This book has lots of good recipes and easy to follow instrucions on planning and prepairing nutritional foods on the trail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for nutrition information for camping, June 14, 2010
This review is from: Good Food for Camp and Trail: All-Natural Recipes for Delicious Meals Outdoors (Paperback)
I am in charge of packing the food for my sister and I each Spring and Fall for ten days in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I started drying our own food after the first trip (up to 15 trips now).

I rate this book very highly because Miller has (and shares) a great deal of wilderness camping/cooking experience. But I bought and use the book because of the extensive nutritional charts. When you are trying to pack the most nutrients in the least amount of weight, it is invaluable to know how many grams of protein are in specific amount of specific food. Miller also made me aware of tomato powder which is a great flavor boost to soups. Miller provides a very helpful nutritional critique of foods in the supermarket that might be used by those seeking lightweight food for backpacking/canoeing.

I can't say that I have made any recipes from this book, but it is invaluable nevertheless.
