Experimental Hiphop dope,
By Elegance "Elegance" (France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Fortune (Dig) (Audio CD)
This album should have 4stars, but I give it 5 stars because god fortune is really underrated...
These 2 guys are still very good without Beans, their flows are catchy. The Beat? Very experimental, but not overly cerebral. Don't take care about the bad reviews, if you don't like experimental sound, please, don't write a review with only 1 star...it's just a question of taste. If you like new hip-hop with strange sounds , catchy flows, intelligent lyrics, and the antipop consortium univers, buy it. If you like 50cent and gangsta...I think you will hate this Album.

I just heard this album, and man, who woulda thought they'd get over on Beans! So, this LP packs heat - all that ill casio s**t is here on the beats, also some totally out-of-leftfield ish on some interlude instros! I thought I was contemplatin' buying lunar land at one point! I wonder if they can get any moer sci fi than this. My favourite cut is "Monday Through Sunday", heavy, heavy wordplay here by M Sayyid!!!! I hope they release some more singels...

The Best S*** In the World,
By Michael H (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Fortune (Dig) (Audio CD)
M. Sayyid has come a long, long way. I liked his rapping in Anti-Pop, but I always thought he was more . . . conventional that Beans or High Priest; here, on this record, Sayyid is on fire. There is more brilliant wordplay here in one verse of his than on many other rappers' entire outputs! But High Priest is my favorite rapper going. In terms of pure impact, I'd put him up there with Gil Scott-Heron and Linton Kwesi Johnson and Prince Far I and Chuck D and Yusef Komunyakaa. Beyond the conventions. Someone else wrote (I'm paraphrasing here) that the beats are too ordinary. Yeah, I'd like to see where they go with all this, and press that beats beyond the limits on the next release. But if you like "Good Fortune" you should also chase down their two "mixtape" CDs ("Coming Soon: A Prelude to 'Good Fortune'" and "Close Encounters") which are NOT excerpts from this CD, rather they are different, intriguing, highly experimental songs in fragmentary form. Some incredible beats and words. I think those mixtape CDs, along with "Good Fortune," give the most accurate picture of where this band is and where they're heading. Up!

Crippled on beats?,

With a mixture of incredible production and mindbending wordplay Anti-Pop Consortium has been one of my favorite hip-hop groups for years. While the deft lyricism makes the transition to Airborn Audio it sounds like the duo from Anti-Pop have taken two steps back with regard to beats. Plodding drum sequences and repetitive choppped-up syths limit this album from being noteworthy.

Decent Indie Effort,
By Bengt "Bengt-Aaron" (Detroit, Mi USA) - See all my reviews

It was my "good fortune" (sorry) to first hear this album in a car I was parking at my job as a valet. The specific track was NYC, and in the thirty seconds it took to park I was instantly hooked by the minimal beat. When I asked the customer what it was, he replied that it was an APC side project that I would probably have a hard time finding. I was delighted to find it available on Amazon, and needless to say, I bought it.
I have to confess that I'm not real familiar with Anti-Pop (although they get my nod just for being on the WARP label), so unfortunately I'm unable to compare it to APC -- but that might be a good thing as I have no preconceptions or expectations. This album itself is, in my opinion, a decent underground/indie effort. In fact, it's exactly what I'd expect to hear as a side-project... a mixtape that somehow made it's way to the surface. It's not polished, it's not perfect, but it's got that raw underground feel of doing it for fun. Most of the beats are minimal, glitchy electronic/hip-hop that sound borderline amateur but which any fan of said genres should appreciate just for being different from the mainstream. As for lyrics, they're not outstanding (i.e. "I've been through more drama than John Leguizamo"); like I said, they're underground mixtape worthy. Still, there are several tracks that shine: Monday Through Sunday; Miami, the Jungle; This Year; NYC, in particular. Overall, I see this album as an unpolished gem that we (the public) probably never should have heard. It's underground. The mainstream would hate this. But if you're into abstract lyrics and strange beats, it's worth a listen... you won't be disappointed.

Airborn Audio,

Truly, how could a sound such as Antipop be over with, having had such an original approach? In this project, the innovation has only been exascebated. M. Saayid and High Priest have shown that one third don't stop no show. This listening experience could very well be some of the "best sh@# in the world" right now. Original beats, tight production, and intelligent lyrics equate a recipe for mental and aural flight indeed!

I loved the album, will check for more AA. I miss APC but Sayyid and Priest fill the gap well. One of their doper releases but Shopping Carts Crashing is 6 Stars!!!

The 2nd best "Antipop" cd,
By
This review is from: Good Fortune (Dig) (Audio CD)
I would say this is the 2nd best Anti-pop Consortium related CD after "Arrythmia". Maybe it's tied with Beans' "Shock City Maverick". They have a unique electronic style focusing mainly on trippy yet tight synthesizer sounds, without so many samples. There are some great moments of bizarre yet funky rhythms with clever raps, but there are also plenty of embarrassing awkward moments that should've been left out. These include pointless skits, falsetto singing parts, and one segment in which someone is simply saying "hello hello" through a series of pitch changing effects and delays on his voice. I really do like Priest and Sayyid as both producers and rappers. I've been hoping that they would finally put out an album together, but after hearing some excellent material from them this outing is a little disappointing.

Free Hip Hop?,

When I first got this CD I hated it. I would have compared it to a mainstream Cd like 50cent or Mike JOnes. I thought that I would never like it. Here I am listening to it. This CD is for a true Hip Hop fan. This Cd is as experimental as it gets. This Cd can be compared to Free Jazz. It is so out there that it will take a couple of listens to like but if you appreciate Hip Hop as an Art and not as just entertainment then you should listen to this CD with an open Mind.

Really good, Well built album,

This Ablum is totally different from the Anti-pop consortium. While the beats are still out of the ordinary, they aren't as spaced out and techno as as they were before. The beats are totally different. They're kinda hard to describe, I like the previous style they used in their previous albums, but these beats are none the less real tight. It's Anti-pop consortium meets the streets basically. An excellent album. The worldplay of course is complex and intricate. If you even remotely like Anti-pop consortium... BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!
