5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, how I loved it., September 10, 2007
This review is from: Good Ghouls Do (Paperback)
Elizabeth "Beth" Frasier is the current valedictorian of Waterloo High School in Austin, Texas. She has a great boyfriend, Clayton Greene, a loyal best friend, Jenny, and an odd acquaintance with a cute college guy named Kevin. The down side is that Beth was tricked (earlier in the year) into becoming a vampire. Then she had to save Clayton from dying by changing him into a vampire as well. Kevin is a vampire hunter. The only reason Kevin has not staked them both is because they have yet to drink the blood of a LIVING person. Until such time, Beth and Clayton may still have a chance to become human again. To do so, they must figure out WHO Beth's maker/master is and then have the vampire staked.

Jenny is using her journalism skills to investigate students, teachers, and anyone else from the school in hope that the list of possibilities (suspects) can be narrowed down. Once trimmed to a decent size the hard part will begin. Jenny, Beth, Clayton, and Kevin must test the rest with holy water.

Of course there are major hurdles in the way. Someone, or a group of people, are trying to stake Beth into dust. Beth has just dodged an arrow from a crossbow when she overhears Clayton talking on the phone. And it definitely sounds like Clayton has hired someone to assassinate Beth so he can become human again. After all, Beth is Clayton's maker. Taking advantage of the romantic strain, Kevin is trying to win Beth's love and doing a very good job of it. There is also the fact that Beth stopped trying to figure out the day-walking formula for the higher up vampires of the school and it looks like they will have to force Beth to begin work on the formula anew. Lastly, there is another vampire clan in town; the Traditionalists. They do not want the day-walking formula to be found. If that means getting rid of Beth and anyone else in their way, then so be it.

***** If you missed the first book (The Good Ghoul's Guide To Getting Even) then run, don't walk, to the nearest book store and buy a copy! No, you do not HAVE to read the first book in order to enjoy this novel, but things will make a bit more sense to you if you do. Beth is smart, highly self-motivated, and very witty. Okay, sarcasm comes naturally to her, but that just makes her more realistic to readers, right? I am also very excited, because it LOOKS like there will be a third story to this undead adventure. Yippee! I can hardly wait! Author Julie Kenner will win awards with this new series. Out-freaking-standing! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Y/A Vampire fun, March 31, 2008
This review is from: Good Ghouls Do (Paperback)
Good Ghouls Do continues the story of Elizabeth(Beth) Frasier, high school student turned vampire. In Good Ghouls Do, Beth's unlife gets even more complicated as she continues to search for the vampire master that made her while entangled in a romantic triangle with vampire killer Kevin and her new boyfriend Clayton. Good Ghouls Do is a worthy sequel to The Good Ghouls' Guide to Getting Even and is an engaging read that is sure to please. Kenner plays up the absurdity and chaos of Beth's unlife as she deals with both the problems of a normal high school student and the logistical issues of being a vampire. This is a fun book with a good mix of action, romance, and humor. The end of the book makes it clear that fans of Beth's journey can look forward to her continued adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars even a vampire can be a school princess, March 16, 2011

This review is from: Good Ghouls Do (Paperback)
Beth is still trying to find her maker to return to normal. Problem is she doesn't know who is out to kill her. The Traditional vampires who don't like the idea of her trying to make a day walking formula or her own by friend since her death would turn him back into a human. The story is great romantic triangle between Beth, Kevin Clayton. The book also has great humor like when Beth's friend Jenny complain about the lunches her mom fixes her and Beth mention she loves what she having. Jenny feels bad about her friend being stuck on a all liquid diet. The story has some interesting twists were Beth parents may not be her real parents and that she's really vampire royalty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent- but will there be a conclusion?, December 24, 2008

It took me a long time to buy "Good Gouls Do" even though I fell in love with "A Good Ghouls Guide To Getting Even". That is due to the fact that a trip to Julie Kenner's website revealed no plans for a third installment. She said she hopes one day to finish Beth's story but there are no real plans to do so. I hate stories that end in a cliffhanger about as much as I hate TV shows that end on a cliffhanger and then aren't renewed for the next season. Yeah, that's bad. But being a huge Kenner fan and also a Beth fan, I had to pick up this book. I am both tremendously glad and sad that I did. This story picks up right after the first one. Beth is a vampire who is also in line to be her class valedictorian. Due to being tricked by the football team and forced to drink blood, Beth is now a blood drinker. Someone out there is her master and Beth needs to find out who it is. If she can kill her master, than she can become human again. She has to do all this while trying to avoid getting staked because someone is after her. It may be her boyfriend Clayton, who she had to turn recently to keep him from dying. Since she is his master, killing her may be Clayton's only hope of becoming human again. This easy to read story literally flew by...every page is packed with action and Beth's adorable wit. This is a strong, fun teenager, and a great example for pre-teens and teens to look up to. For adults like myself, it is still a fun read. The sad part is having to wonder how Beth's story will end. "Good Ghouls Do" left a ton of unanswered questions. It would be nice if Kenner could find some way to wrap these up? If there is no chance for a final book, perhaps she could work Beth's conclusion into a short story in an anthology or something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ghouls Do, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Good Ghouls Do (Paperback)
Since being turned into a vampire, Beth has found that life sucks, in more ways than one. The main one is, her boyfriend, Clayton, was also turned, by her, but to save his life, not for any nefarious reason. As a result, he has to kill her, unless she can kill her maker first, at which point, both should be turned back to human. She just has no idea WHO her maker is, and she can't spend a lot of time trying to find out. She has to perfect a daywalker formula or risk being killed by one faction, avoid the hunters that either belong to an opposing group of vampires or are being sent by Clayton, keep what she is a secret, work on beefing up her transcript, cheerlead, and cope with the fact that she's attracted to to boys, one who wants to kill her apparently and one who should want to. She'll have to live forever to get it all done, the question is, can she?

***** Reading a Julie Kenner book is a sheer treat for the mind, there's no two ways about it. Beth is a sympathetic heroine who keeps you laughing even though you're on the edge of your seat. At the end of each book this talented author writes, I find myself mentally screaming, what's next, I can hardly wait. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, November 8, 2007
This review is from: Good Ghouls Do (Paperback)
When we last left Beth Frasier, she had unfortunately let her guard down and was turned into a vampire. Beth was trying to become human again by having her creator destroyed, but while killing the wrong vampire she gets herself into a pickle by deciding to save her boyfriend from dying -- by changing him, too.

Now Beth is back and ready to not only turn herself but also her boyfriend, Clayton, into humans once again. That is, hopefully, before Clayton decides that he needs to kill Beth.

Of course, not everything is going well since the head cheerleader, Tamara, is still getting on Beth to decode the prophecy, which tells them how to walk during the day. Kevin, the college guy, is beginning to hit on Beth... Who can resist a college guy who is also a slayer? Little incidents begin to happen which leave Beth in situations where she is almost dead. Her parents, who can't stand each other, are beginning to talk once again. Clayton is beginning to be very secretive and just may be plotting against Beth. And so Beth just possibly may not have a date to the dance.

What totally puts a setback in Beth's plans on solving all of these problems is when she discovers two secrets that can, and will, change her life forever.

Being a teenage girl isn't so great, especially when you are a teenager and everything is against you. Yet, Beth Frasier still finds time to be funnier and wittier than ever. GOOD GHOULS DO is the perfect follow-up to Julie Kenner's previous novel, The Good Ghouls' Guide to Getting Even.

And the HUGE cliffhanger at the end only leaves the reader wanting more... and hopefully there is more.

This was another great book By Julie Kenner. It was cute, although in my opinion it wasnt as great at the first book The Good Ghouls Guide to Getting Even. This continues where the other left off. I hope there's will be another sequel to this because it ended with a lot of unanswered questions.
