A must read for every Christian woman!,
By Amanda M. Land (Chester, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
This book was so good that I read it cover to cover in just one day. The section on buying jeans is worth it's weight in gold! I loved being able to go out and buy jeans for the first time since my son was born and know I was choosing a pair that flattered me. Not only did I finally know what to look for in a pair of jeans; I was also thrilled to find specific brand suggestions in every price range as a start in my search. I also really appreciated reading the sections on modesty. In the past, I've found it tough to find the line between frumpy and immodest clothing, Shari's advice on this matter was so helpful! As a busy stay at home Mom, I often felt guilty investing my resources into looking good. This book changed that, it was so refreshing to read that God made me beautiful and desires for me to feel beautiful! I finally feel I have the tools and the confidence to look fashionable. Thank you Shari for this wonderful book! A must read for every Christian woman!

Must read for dressing well and feeling beautiful,

This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad by Shari Braendel is a thoroughly enjoyable and positively encouraging book for Christian women. I've dropped over thirty pounds in the last year, and so I've been making over my wardrobe. I've also been spending a lot of time trying to figure out what looks best on me, so Shari's book was truly a Godsend for me. She breaks it down from body type to coloring to face shape to help readers figure out what clothes are flattering and what clothes must be avoided at all costs. I learned that I'm doing well to stick with the solid colors I usually do, but the muted tones I've been buying don't do anything for me. I've also been planning to get highlights all summer, but according to the book, I am the one coloring that should avoid them at all costs! I'm so glad that I procrastinated. The book is a lot of fun to read. My teenage daughter and I took turns looking through it and figuring out where we fit. We also discovered that we are both wearing the wrong bra size! Braendel is always encouraging and uplifting; she genuinely wants readers to feel how beautiful they are and to embrace it. I learned a lot of new ideas, including the 16 point rule, and this book has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf.

Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad,
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
The moment I picked up Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad, I loved it. It does not try to make you perfect, instead it teaches you to enhance what God has given you. This book is for normal, everyday women with normal, everyday bodies who want to celebrate what God has given them.Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad covers everything from determining your body type and what clothes flatter which body, hair, makeup, finding the perfect pair of jeans, accessories, even which style of eye glasses flatter each face shape. This book is wonderfully practical and is written in an easy manner with common sense fashion advice all women can follow. I highly recommend Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad for all women. There are so many fashion books out there that carry the wrong message. This book carries the right message and I really appreciated that. I will keep this book close by and I'm sure I will read it again and again.

Christian Woman? Read this Book!,
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
Is this too revealing? Did I pay too much for it? Does it look good on me? Those are only a couple of questions women ask themselves when they get dressed in the morning. In her book, "Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad," Shari Braendel does an excellent job of addressing the way Christian women can dress to look their best.Immediately in the second paragraph of the introduction she says, "You have a responsibility as a Christian female to make sure that how you dress is a reflection of who you really are." If you dress sloppy you might appear to other as sloppy. Is that the point you are trying to get across? This book is full of advice on how to dress your specific body type, how to get the right hair cut for your face shape, even what glasses look good on your face, and yes, swimsuits too. The female reader will also be glad to see an entire chapter dedicated to undergarments and how important the right fit is. Once this book is completed it should take out all the guess work and time you spend getting ready and also once the reader realizes what colors and/or items look best on them there is no need to waste money on anything else. The author bookends this read with scripture and spiritual wisdom to start you off on the right foot and also leave you with some parting wisdom in the end. In the last chapter she reminds the reader that beauty starts with knowing who God is. Thank you to Zondervan publishing for providing a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing purposes.

No matter your body type, discover basic information and practical tips to feel great about yourself, your clothes, and your accessories. This Book Features: Body type/colors: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad starts with the basics--know your body type and colors to help you determine what looks good on you. Tip: Black could make you look older. Accessories: Develop your personal style fashionista. Tip: If you're tiny don't wear oversized accessories, they make you look smaller. If you are large, don't wear tiny accessories, they make you look bigger. Jeans: This chapter discusses the back pockets, cuts, and rise of jeans for different body types, plus shopping tips to find the perfect jean to fit your body type. Tip: Measure the length of the zipper which determines the rise ( super low-rise, low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise) of the jeans. Hit the Mall: Stop, Drop and Shop: The author provides great tips to declutter your wardrobe of unwearables. Then lists twelve must-haves basics, plus other seasonal basics. She also provides a shopping guide for your personal fashionista style. Tip: No impulse buying. Shop on purpose. Skin Isn't In: This chapter offers a great discussion on modesty and how showing busts and bellies impacts the thoughts of men. Since I'm in declutter mode, I'm anxious to follow Shari's useful tips to determine the unwearables in my closet. Can't wait to donate my castoffs to my favorite thrift store.

A must-have for all women,

This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
I read this book cover to cover in one morning. It is SO practical and user-friendly!!I'm going to be buying one for EVERY woman on my Christmas gift list, from my 84-year-old grandmother to my 22-year-old sister-in-law to my husband's co-workers. EVERY woman should have this book. Knowing how to dress your body type, the colors that look best on you, the best color for your shoes and purse, how to shop and what to buy....all of it helps women LOOK as good as they feel and helps save money by limiting purchases to what WORKS! I was so inspired by Shari's book that I immediately made a hair appointment with a new hair dresser and followed Shari's advice for my face shape. I got a chin-length bob, no highlights (which really DOES bring out my eyes!), and it is AMAZING. I've gotten so many compliments already! Last night I went shopping with my mom and effortlessly found jeans that worked for me and grabbed tops off the rack that I knew would work. I even demonstrated to my mom how a light gray didn't work as well as the dark charcoal gray Shari recommends as one of my neutrals. What would've previously taken me hours only took about thirty minutes because I knew what I was looking for! I love this book and would recommend it to any woman who wants to look her best!

Christian Women In Style! | [...],
By Tami Q. "mymadakaja" (Oklahoma) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
When I first looked at this book, I thought it'd just be about modesty. I'm all for modesty, so I decided I wanted to read it.Opening the pages, I discovered it's a whole lot more! I am very self-conscious when it comes to my appearance. I'm overweight, feel like a Plain Jane and don't want any attention drawn to me. However, on the inside, I want to feel pretty and be in style. This book tells a girl how to do it, without betraying one's modesty. Looking through this book, a girl can learn so much. I can feel and be more attractive simply by using the book's guidelines for makeup, hair styles and clothing that are specific to my body type, skin and hair. I love that the book's audience is realistic...women who are not cardboard thin airbrushed models. I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

A book for every woman,
By Holly (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I loved it. So many style and fashion books are intimidating and are full of skinny, sexy models who are leaps, bounds and airbrushes away from me and my life. Here, finally, is a book for real, every day women. Shari Braendel explains body type and helps you determine which type you are. And there are photographs of real women who have that body type. Then, she explains why certain styles work better with certain types, and there are photos of these real women wearing those styles. It's awesome. With categories for every aspect of style including: Meet Your True Colors, The Art of Undergarments, How to Divide and Conquer Swimwear, Hair and Makeup, and others, this is a book for every woman. I think my favorite thing about the book is that all of the models are real. They're people you would know. Even in the section on swimsuits, these models are real, flawed, beautiful women, some of whom are plus-sized. It's so refreshing. You can look at any one of these photos and see yourself. This is a book you could read in one setting, but I think it's more of a great resource guide.

Must Read for Women,
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
I received a copy of this book at no charge from the publisher for the purpose of review.I have been so blessed by this book. I never in my life thought that I would like a book on fashion. However this book won me over. It is a perfect balance of spiritual and physical on this subject matter. It was written like a letter from one friend to another. Any woman who picks this up will leave feeling better about herself. Now that is priceless in my opinion. As women we struggle as loving and accepting ourselves exactly as God made us. He made us each unique and beautiful yet for some reason we often end up desiring to be someone else. This book helps with that. It helps you learn how to dress the way that makes you look the best you can. After all like Shari tells us "we are representing our King!" Another great thing about this book is it is far from materialistic. You are never encouraged to go out and spend or buy things that you do not need. I loved that about this book. In fact the author did address the issue of shop therapy being wrong. The motivation of our heart should be that we look the best we can for representing our Father in Heaven. Period. The book helps you know: * Your body type and how to best dress that type. * The colors that look best with your skin, hair and eye colors. * The perfect balance when wearing accessories. They are good for even the simplest of us. Help with knowing what looks best on you based on your build. * Appropriateness of undergarments. * Survival guide to swimsuit shopping. * Hair and Makeup tips defining facial shapes and best cuts to compliment those along with best eye wear. * Jeans-a great guide for shopping by body type and stores to purchase them in all price ranges. * An encouraging shopping guide. * Modesty-a must! This is a book that I will continual look through. I discussed some of this even with my 8 year old daughter who really enjoyed it. I really think it would be a good read for any age. Also, the book is full of pictures to explain the things that are being discussed. This was very helpful to me because I learn visually. I do not usually encourage you to buy any book that I review but this one I am going to encourage you to go out and buy. You will not regret it. Really you will not. The author Shari is the real deal. She is a speaker for Proverbs 31 ministries. Contributes a lot to the teen girls of that ministry through Radical Revolution.

"Good Girls don't have to DRESS BAD",
By Godspoetic1 (Somewhere Over The Rainbow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad: A Style Guide for Every Woman (Paperback)
"Good Girls don't have to DRESS BAD"...a style guide for every woman... By: Shari Braendel I was both wonderfully and pleasantly surprised with the book "Good Girls don't have to DRESS BAD", by sought after Christian speaker on fashion and beauty, Shari Braendel! Finally there is a book out there to teach Christian women of all ages, how to dress modestly and look their best, while living in a very "fashion-driven" society, that puts emphasis on looks, weight, and materialism. This book is very modern, yet refreshing, teaching women that they can still be a "Christian woman", and look beautiful; that being a Christian girl doesn't mean you have to look "worldly" also, or on the other hand drab and dull, with no life or beauty! Christian's should look their best, not their worst, we are the apple of our Dear Heavenly Father's Eye! Who more do you want to please when you walk out that door in the morning, than your Heavenly Father...I know I do! "Some" things in Shari's book you will learn & discover are: 1.) Your specific body type 2.) How to build your wardrobe according to the different seasons of the year. 3.) Makeup techniques 4.) Shari's "5 B's of style & modesty 5.) Finding the right jeans and swimsuit for your body Shari teaches women that you can look & feel your best no matter what, and that you can and will, ALWAYS have something to wear, for all occasions! This book is the perfect manual for every female, from teens through adult ages, to help them gain that new perspective on what it is to dress as a "Christian girl", and live with her best confidence in today's world, because "Good Girls don't have to DRESS BAD"!!! As per FTC Guidelines, I must state that this book "Good Girls don't have to DRESS BAD", was given to me in exchange for my review from Zondervan Publishers. My opinions are expressly my own and are in no way ever made positively or negatively, due to my receiving the book for review. |
