4.0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTY OF A BOOK
Here's a beauty of a book with a bounty of hair care and styling advice. As we all know there are beaucoup books on the market all with the promise of making us look better, younger, slimmer, etc. But I've not run across few authors who bring the wealth of training and experience to his/her craft that Robert Vetica does.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was ok
It wasn't as detailed and didn't have as much hair styles to practice as I thought it would.

Only one chapter covered hair styling techniques.

Not saying it was bad, it was a lot of fun to read and pretty imformative about the basics of hair but if you're looking to get a book just on hair styling than put this one on hold..

4.0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTY OF A BOOK, March 7, 2009
This review is from: Good to Great Hair: Celebrity Hairstyling Techniques Made Simple (Paperback)
Here's a beauty of a book with a bounty of hair care and styling advice. As we all know there are beaucoup books on the market all with the promise of making us look better, younger, slimmer, etc. But I've not run across few authors who bring the wealth of training and experience to his/her craft that Robert Vetica does.

Some 14 years ago he arrived in Hollywood from Milan, Italy where as he puts it "Milan was my high school, university, and graduate school. I came out of that experience with what I believe is a doctorate in hair..." Indeed he did and he shares his knowledge in a gorgeous volume filled with do's, don't's, how-tos, and must-haves.

To Vetica's credit he does not try to make you look like someone you are not. What he does is teach us how to work with the hair that we have in order to look not better but our best. He considers face shape, hair texture, and the appropriate products for each individual (No, you do not need a ton of them).

He is totally honest and disabused me of some notions I've cherished for years, such as the fact that the squeaky-clean feeling for hair is not what we want and no, you don't need to and should not wash your hair every day even if you work out.

The photography in Good To Great Hair is magnificent plus. Not only is it gorgeous but there are can't-do-without shots that show precisely how to hold the dryer and brush for a specific style.

I was amazed at the difference in a friend when she followed just one of Vetica's tips, which was "At a certain age, I believe that a woman's hair looks best away from her face." He also added that if you had to have bangs, move the direction of the bangs away from you face. Simple? Yes, but the difference in her appearance was amazing.

Vetica has an A-List client roster from Salma Hayek to Debra Messing to Renee Zellweger, and no wonder. Obviously he wants women to look their best and really likes them. After reading Good To Great Hair his affection will be reciprocated by many.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real techniques for real people..., February 27, 2009
This review is from: Good to Great Hair: Celebrity Hairstyling Techniques Made Simple (Paperback)
Mr. Vetica's techniques are very straightforward and his advice & directions are very easy to follow. The techniques are time saving which is important to this busy mom. I like that he recommends a variety of hair products with instructions on how to properly apply them. Now maybe I can get rid of the product graveyard of things I never figured out how to use.

Additionally, the photography in this book is excellent and really helps get the point across to the reader. This is book is written so that every person can have access to great hair and helps the reader solve real hair problems. I guess there are no more excuses for a bad hair day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Good to Great Hair: Celebrity Hairstyling Techniques Made Simple (Paperback)
I love the way this book broke down the instructions in very easy to understand language. I subscribe to all of the major fashion magazines and can never recreate the looks like I was able to do with this book. I'm especially excited that I was finally able to determine my hair texture. I also liked the fact that there aren't any promos for the latest products - just tried and true basics.

You will need to have some basic skills at hair styling in order to do the hair styles.

It was fairly a good book just wish it had more hair styles to learn and practice.

I would still recommended it for any one that is into hair styling or wants to get better.

I am a professional hairstylist, and I own many many books on hairstyling. Out of all of the books I own, I have to say that this book is BY FAR the very best book on the subject. It's a great book for stylists wanting to become freelance stylists and work in film or print; It's great for salon stylists who need a little more education on styling hair (maybe for Brides, etc.); and it's also fantastic for the average person just trying to learn ways to style their own hair. Robert makes it look so easy (even though I know it's not always as easy as it looks!). However, compared to most of the books out there, all of these styles are do-able. The best part of it for me, is that Robert Vetica comes across not only as a fantastic, talented artist, but a kind, humble man as well. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in this book to get it! You won't find anything better!!!

Book is okay. Disappointed that there weren't any African American models at all. Nor was there a section on ethnic hair. I own a salon and will use is as a coffee table book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this Book!, November 9, 2010

This is a great hair book, and one you should have in your library. I am a beauty school student, however, even if I wasn't, this book would be exceptionally useful. Vetica's advice is clear, logical, and just plain makes sense- and I love his willingness to be honest and speak the truth. He is also very funny!! It is quite an enjoyable read. He goes well into how to keep hair healthy and little tips and tricks he uses to make hair appear photo ready ( like spraying hair spray on his hands and smoothing over hair to tame fly-aways)...I just got the book, yet I found myself underlining parts and highlighting so I wouldn't forget the gems of knowledge on the pages!! I am taking this book with me to beauty school to share with my classmates because it is THAT good. I read the entire book in about a day...and it would've been faster if I hadn't had to go to school today to work on my mannequin :) Great book!! I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Tips from a Seasoned Hair Designer, February 19, 2009
This review is from: Good to Great Hair: Celebrity Hairstyling Techniques Made Simple (Paperback)
Robert Vetica has given away his valuable secrets. Take advantage of these ideas, because your clients will be complimented on their hair. One slight flair to your style attracts so much attention. His explanations are detailed and pictures are beautiful and meticulous. The book is not hard bound or paper back, it's my favorite packaging, the kind that flips and folds. Try this artist's technique, you'll be greatly delighted.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT WHAT IT SEEMS, December 19, 2011

my daughter wanted a book on how to style hair, this book is great for teaching the basics of care and a right cut but not styling. it gave the impression it "showed" how to style your own hair when infact the pictures are of someone else doing the styles on a model. wanting a book with pictures of that individual actually fixing their own hair so show placement of hands and equipment when used.

3.0 out of 5 stars Covers all types, but not in depth, January 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Good to Great Hair: Celebrity Hairstyling Techniques Made Simple (Paperback)
Great pictures~ magazine quality. The book basically goes through each hair type (fine, thick, etc) and shows you how to manipulate the hair into a flattering style for that hair type. However, once you find your hairstyle it's pretty limited. You can pick up some good techniques from it if you're observant, but the book is too concerned with covering EVERYONE'S hair type that it feels more like a pamphlet.
