Book Description

November 8, 2004
The Reverend Jacob Bradner is mad as a hornet and he's not sure why. But when death comes knocking, he has to make some tough decisions. In his never-ending snit, Pastor Jake alienates everyone, including church leaders. He knows he's deeply distraught over the sudden death three years earlier of his wife of 30 years, the love of his life, his soul mate. But he also knows there is more to it. Slogging through his mental quagmire, he sometimes thinks he's going crazy. As Jake overflows with frustration and anger, he goes from fit to fat, and changes from a caring shepherd to a crotchety old man. Jake is transferred back to his hometown, which he detests, and gets off to a shaky start. No one knows if he can survive the mess he's making. Jake continues, out of control, until his brush with death snaps him back to reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Joy To Read., December 22, 2004
This review is from: Good Grief: A Parson's Tale (Paperback)
The protagionist could have been you, or me. It just happened that he was The Reverend Mister Jacob Bradner. He discovers the same fears and joys as most men. You will be tempted to flip to the last chapter . . . but don't. I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring, insightful and soulful read!, May 4, 2005

This review is from: Good Grief: A Parson's Tale (Paperback)
I was concerned that reading a story about an angry and grief stricken minister was not going to relate to me, but I was wrong. I am a young, married woman who is going through an incredibly painful and difficult time which has made me angry and not only at myself but at God. This story has inspired me to begin to heal and move towards a different future. Maybe, my life is not going according to plan, but I am now willing to accept another version. Thank you Mr. Rees for your meaningful words.

This book is an interesting tale of one man's grief and anger and how he eventually learns to let go...life lessons we could all learn from.
