4.0 out of 5 stars Grips well, and comfortable to use.
I bought this mitt as a replacement for an old-school fabric model by KitchenAid which had been left on the hot stove plates a few too many times. I like it - inside, the lining is soft and has a bit of padding, but not too much that you can't grab with it. The outside is an interesting blend of silicone with grooves, strategically placed so that it helps to hold on to...

2.0 out of 5 stars looks great but poorly designed
Let me begin with a positive note on the OXO Good Grips oven mitt: It looks great and the magnet is a good idea. Now for the negative aspects of this item: it's WAY over-priced, especially for how poorly it is designed. The way this oven mitt is designed does not give you a "Good Grip," which is ironic since it's called the "OXO Good Grips" oven mitt. It's hard to...

It's hard to explain, but the silicone part is somewhat stiff and when you put your hand in the mitt, you cannot easily grab things, especially if what you're trying to grab is small (like a pan lid) or narrow (like the handles on a roaster pan). It's like this mitt was designed as though the only thing anyone uses an oven mitt for is to take hot cookie sheets out of the oven. I decided not to give it one star ONLY because it does a good job of insulating your hand from high temperatures. I strongly suggest that if you are considering purchasing this OXO mitt, you should go to a store and try it on first to see what you think about the design.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor functionality for high temp mitt, July 23, 2006

The mitt provides outstanding protection but it's too stiff and clumsy for regular use in the kitchen. I think it's best suited for moving grills, racks, etc.

I bought this mitt as a replacement for an old-school fabric model by KitchenAid which had been left on the hot stove plates a few too many times. I like it - inside, the lining is soft and has a bit of padding, but not too much that you can't grab with it. The outside is an interesting blend of silicone with grooves, strategically placed so that it helps to hold on to what you're grabbing that much better. (If you've ever used an Orka mitt, you know how hard it is to really grab things sometimes.) The entire hand portion of the mitt is covered in the silicone, so it's just about as workable as other silicone mitts when using it on wet items.

I like this mitt and would recommend it. The magnet in the wrist is a nice feature as well - I place it on the side of my oven so it's always nearby when I need it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good for smaller hands, January 23, 2006

The mitt itself is quite nice, and certainly handles temperatures I wouldn't try with one of my older mitts.

The problem is that it isn't designed for smaller hands. I'm a guy with fairly short fingers (not oddly so, just below average), perhaps typical size for a woman's fingers. The fingers on the glove are much too long to work well with smaller hands, and makes gripping with the glove a definite problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've had them for years & I swear by them, September 22, 2006

I have the Tucker burn guard commercial line, kitchenaid and various designer potholders and I've stopped using them all except these Oxo. These are great for blocking the heat. I have smallish female hands and I admit that these mits took some getting used to. Once I got used to them (after the first or second use) I routinely reach for them. Its to the point that I don't even have the other ones out anymore. I am here looking to replace my original set of 3 (2 mits + 1 potholder) and I was surprised by the negative reviews. So surprised in fact that I am writing this review. I swear by them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so hot, February 6, 2007

The mit is good for insulation and I like the cuff that protects your wrist. However, it is molded flat, I suppose so it can be used in either hand. Consequently it doesn't conform to the shape of either hand and using it is difficult. In other words, the opposing thumb doesn't "oppose", but instead you have to sort of use the edge of it. I would get something else that has a shape ready to grab the edge of a pan instead of waving at traffic. Not worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very surprised by how small, July 7, 2008

OXO generally makes great stuff and I have plenty of it. I thankfully read some comments here about the size and decided to walk 3 blocks to my nearest Bed and Bath to see for myself. At 5'11" and 170 lbs I do not consider myself to be that large but do have pretty big hands for my size. These things were tiny. Didn't fit at all. Maybe they are the greatest gloves in the world but only if you have small hands. I went with the Calphalon mitts and am rather content with them.

If you are tempted, as I was, to ignore some of the comments here about the bulkiness of this item, don't. I wanted this for the magnet feature, but I had to return it because the raised silicone grids (designed for a good grip) actually make the mitt very difficult to operate. Also, the fingers section is too narrow. Even my husband, who has unusually thin hands, complained that he couldn't fit his in there. Too many design flaws. I hope they improve on it; meanwhile I'm going to just get the multi-use trivet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for men, not so good for women., November 9, 2008
This review is from: Oxo Good Grips Silicone Oven Mitt with Magnet, Black (Kitchen)
My husband loves this mitt. It is perfect for his large hands, it insulates well, and we love the magnet. Although he loves it, I cannot use it. I have long fingers but the silicone still makes it too stiff to grab things other than cookie sheets/ I unfortunatly do not use it at all but my husband has used it for almost everything.

OXO Good Grips Silicone Oven Mitt with Magnet, Black

i attend a boarding school, and i cook dinner about four nights a week, so i have used the product alot. in my experiances i haven't had any major problems with it, the only thing that i would change about this product is to try and make is a bit more flexible. Other than that the heat resistance is great, and it has relitively good grip.
